2006 European Figure Skating Championships
The 2006 European Figure Skating Championships were a senior international figure skating competition in the 2005–06 season. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The event was held at the Palais des Sports de Gerland in Lyon, France, from January 17 to 22, 2006. Qualifying The competition was open to skaters from European ISU member nations who reached the age of 15 before July 1, 2005. The corresponding competition for non-European skaters was the 2006 Four Continents Championships. Based on the results of the 2005 European Championships, each country was allowed between one and three entries per discipline. Elena Grushina
Elena Eduardovna Grushina (russian: Елена Эдуардовна Грушина or uk, Олена Едуардівна Грушина Olena Eduardivna Hrushyna; born 8 January 1975) is a Ukrainian ice dancer. With partner and then-husband Ruslan Goncharov, she is the 2006 Olympic bronze medalist, 2005 World bronze medalist, and two-time (2005, 2006) European silver medalist. Career Grushina began skating at four and switched from single skating to ice dancing when she was 12. Grushina first competed with Mikhail Tashlitsky but the partnership ended when he decided to focus on school. Having trained in the same group in Odessa, Grushina and Ruslan Goncharov were paired together in 1989. They finished fourth at the 1992 Junior Worlds. Karel Štefl (born 27 February 1982 in Slaný) is a Czech pair skater. Career Between 1999 and 2001, Štefl competed with Radka Zlatohlavková and placed 21st at the 2000 Junior World Championships. From 2001 to 2004, Štefl skated with Veronika Havlíčková. They competed at the European Championships and on the Grand Prix series, and won a bronze medal on the Junior Grand Prix series. Olga Prokuronova (russian: Ольга Прокуронова; born 3 July 1989) is a Russian former pair skater. Prokuronova competed with Czech skater Karel Štefl and won the 2006 Czech senior national title. Alexei Vladimirovich Tikhonov (russian: link=no, Алексей Владимирович Тихонов; born 1 November 1971) is a Russian Pair skating, pair skater. With partner Maria Petrova (figure skater), Maria Petrova, he is the 2000 World Figure Skating Championships, World champion and a two-time (1999, 2000) European Figure Skating Championships, European champion. Career Tikhonov began skating in his hometown, Samara. Initially a singles skater, he switched to pairs at 15 and a half. Maria Petrova (figure Skater)
Maria Igorevna Petrova (russian: Мария Игоревна Петрова, links=no; born 29 November 1977) is a Russian pair skater. With partner Alexei Tikhonov, she is the 2000 World champion and a two-time (1999, 2000) European champion Career Petrova was a sickly child and her doctor recommended she take up a sport; her parents got her into figure skating when she was seven. She started out in singles but always preferred pair skating and admired Ekaterina Gordeeva / Sergei Grinkov so she made the switch to pairs at 13. She initially competed with Anton Sikharulidze with whom she is the 1994 and 1995 World Junior Champion. Robin Szolkowy (born 14 July 1979) is a retired German pair skater. With partner Aliona Savchenko, he is the 2010 and 2014 Olympic bronze medalist, a five-time World champion (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014), a four-time European champion (2007–2009, 2011), a four-time Grand Prix Final champion (2007, 2010, 2011, 2013), and an eight-time German national champion (2004–2009, 2011, 2014). Elena Sergeyevna Sokolova (russian: Елена Сергеевна Соколова; born 15 February 1980) is a Russian former competitive figure skater. She is the 2003 World silver medalist, a three-time European medalist (2003–2004, 2006), and a three-time Russian national champion (2003–2004, 2006).
