2005–06 Snooker Season
The 2005–06 snooker season was a series of snooker tournaments played between 17 May 2005 and 10 May 2006. There were six ranking tournaments, and the British Open and Irish Masters tournaments were removed from calendar. The Northern Ireland Trophy was held for the first time as non-ranking tournament, and the Pot Black was held again after a 12-year hiatus. Ding Junhui
Ding Junhui (; born 1 April 1987) is a Chinese professional snooker player. He is the most successful Asian player in the history of the sport. Throughout his career, he has won 14 major ranking titles, including three UK Championships (2005, 2009, 2019). He has twice reached the final of the Masters, winning once in 2011. In 2016, he became the first Asian player to reach the final of the World Championship. Ding began playing snooker at age nine and rose to international prominence in 2002 after winning the Asian Under-21 Championship and the Asian Championship. At age 15, he became the youngest winner of the IBSF World Under-21 Championship. In 2003, Ding turned professional at the age of 16. EBSA European Under-21 Snooker Championships
The EBSA European Under-21 Snooker Championships is the premier amateur junior snooker tournament in Europe. The event series is sanctioned by the European Billiards & Snooker Association. It took place first in 1997 and is held annually since then. The event was known as the EBSA European Under-19 Snooker Championships until 2010. In most years the winner of the tournament qualifies for the next two seasons of the World Snooker Tour as well as being awarded the Ebdon Trophy which is named in honour of former World Champion Peter Ebdon. James Tatton
James Tatton (born 20 July 1978) is an English former professional snooker player. Career Born in 1978, Tatton turned professional in 1996. His first season's results meant that he fell off the tour at its conclusion. Several seasons alternating between professional and amateur status, re-qualifying for and again dropping off the tour, followed, before the only tournament win of his career in 2004. In the 2004/2005 season, Tatton reached the semi-final of Event 1 of that year's Challenge Tour, losing 1–5 to Jamie Cope. In the following event, he defeated Terry Murphy 4–3, Tony Jones also 4–3, Darryn Walker 5–1, Gareth Coppack and Gavin Pantall also 5–1, and the young David Gilbert by the same scoreline, setting up a meeting in the final with Matthew Barnes. Matthew Couch
Matthew Couch (born 30 June 1974) is an English former professional snooker player. Career During a professional career lasting from 1992 to 2012, Couch had little success in ranking events, although he reached the quarter-finals of the UK Championship in 1998, and his highest break is 141 from 2002. He returned to the Main Tour for the 2008/2009 season, and survived due to a fine run in the World Championship qualifiers, including a 10–3 victory over former champion John Parrott. In October 2010, Couch had one of his best results to date, reaching the final of the 2010 Brugge Open, where he lost 4–2 against former World Champion Shaun Murphy. Justin Astley
Justin Astley (born 20 May 1983) is an English former professional snooker player. He played on Challenge Tour in 2001/02, and first qualified for the Main Tour in 2002/03, but lost his place. Then he played on Challenge Tour again from 2003 to 2005. He returned for the 2005/2006 season, but he couldn't defend his place. In the 2009–10 season he reached the finals of the last two events of the International Open Series The International Open Series (often referred to as Pontins International Open Series or PIOS for sponsorship purposes), was a series of snooker tournaments that ran from the 2001/02 season until the 2009/10 season. Lee Spick
Lee Spick (25 April 1980 – 26 January 2015) was an English professional snooker player. A former English under-15 champion, he reached the last 48 of ranking events on five occasions, including twice in the World Championship. Career He reached the Quarter-Final of the 2000 Benson and Hedges Championship, with wins against Darren Morgan and Dean Reynolds, as well as others, before losing to Mark Davis 4–5. He also reached the Quarter-Final of the 2001 event, beating the likes of World Championship runner-up Nigel Bond, before losing out to future World Champion Shaun Murphy 3-5 He reached the last 48 of the 2006 World Championship and the 2007 China Open. Jamie Cope
Jamie Cope (born 12 September 1985) is an English former professional snooker player. A finalist in two ranking tournaments, the 2006 Grand Prix and the 2007 China Open, Cope also reached the semi-finals of the 2011 Masters. He reached his highest ranking, 13th, in September 2010, but thereafter developed a tremor which has been attributed to being either an essential tremor or the yips, which makes his cue arm shake. This condition caused Cope to slip markedly down the rankings in the 2010s, culminating in his relegation from the main tour at the end of the 2016–17 season. Challenge Tour (snooker)
The Q Tour is a series of snooker tournaments, immediately below the level of the World Snooker Main Tour. The tour originally ran between the 1994–95 season and the 2004–05 season as professional non-ranking events. Due to the large numbers of players on tour at that time the new WPBSA Minor Tour was formed so players lower down the rankings had tournaments to play in. It was subsequently rebranded the UK Tour and then the Challenge Tour. It was revived for the 2018–19 season, before being rebranded as the Q Tour for the 2021–22 season. Liang Wenbo
Liang Wenbo (; born 25 March 1987) is a Chinese professional snooker player based at the Oracle Snooker Club, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England. Liang, who plays left-handed, has reached one Triple Crown final, made three Masters appearances, and won one ranking title at the inaugural English Open in 2016. He twice won the World Cup for China along with teammate Ding Junhui. Liang has made three maximum breaks in his career, and reached an all-time high of 11th in the world rankings. Liang was suspended from professional competition from 2 April until 1 August 2022 for bringing the sport into disrepute, following a domestic assault conviction. Judd Trump
Judd Trump (born 20 August 1989) is an English professional snooker player, a former world champion and former world number one. Widely regarded as one of the sport's most talented players, he is currently sixth on the list of all-time ranking event winners, with 23 ranking titles. Trump won his maiden ranking title at the 2011 China Open, was runner-up to John Higgins at the 2011 World Snooker Championship, and captured his first Triple Crown title at the 2011 UK Championship. Jin Long (snooker Player)
Jin Long (; born 23 May 1981) is a Chinese former professional snooker player. He is nicknamed "Golden Dragon", which is a translation of his given name. Career He became professional in 2001 following his strong runs to the finals of the Asian and Chinese Championships. His first Main Tour stints were rather unsuccessful, with the best result a last 48 appearance at the 2004 Grand Prix.
