2005 North Dakota State Bison Football Team
The 2005 North Dakota State Bison football team represented North Dakota State University in the 2005 NCAA Division I-AA football season. The team was led by third-year head coach Craig Bohl and played their homes game at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota. The Bison finished the season with an overall record of 7–4 and tied for second place in the Great West Conference with a mark of 3–2. Despite being ranked #20 at the end of the year, North Dakota State was ineligible for the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs per NCAA rules that mandated a four-year probationary period for programs entering NCAA Division I-AA. The Bison were ranked in the top-25 in 10 of the 11 weeks in the season. Great West Conference
The Great West Conference (GWC) was an NCAA college athletic conference in the continental United States. Originally a football-only league, it became an all-sports entity during the 2008–09 season. The GWC stopped sponsoring football following the 2011 season. The conference became defunct when four of the remaining five full member schools became members of other conferences on July 1, 2013. History Cal Poly, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, and UC Davis inaugurated the Great West Football Conference during the 2004 season. Cal Poly and UC Davis had previously been members of the American West Conference, a similar low-level conference that existed in the 1990s. Bozeman is a city and the county seat of Gallatin County, Montana, United States. Located in southwest Montana, the 2020 census put Bozeman's population at 53,293, making it the fourth-largest city in Montana. Carbondale is a city in Jackson and Williamson Counties, Illinois, United States, within the Southern Illinois region informally known as "Little Egypt". McAndrew Stadium
McAndrew Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium in Carbondale, Illinois, United States. It opened in 1938 and was home to the Southern Illinois University Salukis football team, as well as the track team. It was replaced by Saluki Stadium in 2010. Originally built by the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression of the mid-1930s, it had a construction cost of $150,000, only seated 5,000 and was hailed as one of the most attractive stadiums in the Midwest. The first game at the stadium took place on October 1, 1938, a 27–0 loss to Southeast Missouri State. The 2005 Southern Illinois Salukis football team represented Southern Illinois University as a member of the Gateway Football Conference during the 2005 NCAA Division I-AA football season. They were led by fifth-year head coach Jerry Kill and played their home games at McAndrew Stadium in Carbondale, Illinois. The Salukis finished the season with a 9–4 record overall and a 5–2 record in conference play, making them conference co-champions. The team received an at-large bid to the Division I-AA playoffs, where they defeated Eastern Illinois before losing to Appalachian State in the quarterfinals. Dakota Marker
The Dakota Marker is the trophy awarded to the winner of the annual football game played between the rival Division I Championship Subdivision North Dakota State University Bison and the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits. Both schools are members of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. The Marker The trophy is a model replica of the quartzite monuments that marked the border between North and South Dakota when Dakota Territory split into two states along the Seventh Standard Parallel (45°56'07" N). The monuments were seven feet tall and ten inches square at the top, and were mined and inscribed near Sioux Falls. Charles Bates placed 720 markers at half-mile intervals along the border in the summers of 1891 and 1892. Cedar City is the largest city in Iron County, Utah, United States. It is located south of Salt Lake City, and north of Las Vegas on Interstate 15. Eccles Coliseum is an 8,500-seat multi-purpose stadium in the western United States, on the campus of Southern Utah University the home venue of the Southern Utah Thunderbirds football team of the United Athletic Conference and track and field teams of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
