Television In Estonia
Television in Estonia was introduced in 1955, following the Soviet government's decision to establish a television station in 1953. The National TV Channel ETV has maintained an archive since 1955 in which broadcasts of unique aspects of Estonian culture are held. Northern Estonia receives television signals from Finland. During the 1970s and 1980s, Finnish broadcasts were more popular than Soviet-Estonian offerings until the Singing Revolution, with many Estonians enjoying ''Dallas'' and other programs portraying non-Communist lifestyles. Digital television was officially launched on December 15, 2006 when the operator Eesti Digitaaltelevisiooni AS launched its pay service ZUUMtv, operated by Starman, on two multiplexes. In 2006, only ETV was available for free, but as of March 2009, there are already 7 free channels in digital broadcast. Digital television signal ( DVB-T and DVB-H) is broadcast by Levira. Suntribe
Suntribe was an Estonian girl group that participated in the 50th Eurovision Song Contest in 2005. The original line-up was Mari-Leen Kaselaan, Rebecca Kontus, Laura Põldvere and Jaanika Vilipo. They were later joined by a fifth member, Daana Ots. The group won the pre-selection competition, Eurolaul, with their song "Let's Get Loud", which received 10,583 votes and went on to represent Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. Estonia performed in twelfth position in the semi-final of the 2005 Contest which was held in Kyiv, Ukraine on 19 May 2005, but failed to qualify for the grand final after finishing in 20th place. Several members of the band later split to pursue solo careers, with one of the members, Laura Põldvere, returning to the contest in 2017 to represent Estonia with Koit Toome. Eurovision Song Contest 2005
The Eurovision Song Contest 2005 was the 50th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Kyiv, Ukraine, following the country's victory at the with the song "Wild Dances" by Ruslana. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster National Television Company of Ukraine (NTU), the contest was held at the Palace of Sports, and consisted of a semi-final on 19 May, and a final on 21 May 2005. The two live shows were presented by Ukrainian television presenters Maria Efrosinina and Pavlo Shylko. Thirty-nine countries participated in the contest, three more than the previous record of thirty-six, that took part the year before. Bulgaria and Moldova made their first participation this year, while Hungary returned to the contest after a six-year absence, having last taken part in . Let's Get Loud (Suntribe Song)
Estonia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the song "Let's Get Loud" written by Sven Lõhmus. The song was performed by the group Suntribe. The Estonian broadcaster Eesti Televisioon (ETV) organised the national final ''Eurolaul 2005'' in order to select the Estonian entry for the 2005 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. Nine songs competed in the national final and "Let's Get Loud" performed by Suntribe was selected as the winner entirely by a public vote. Estonia competed in the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 19 May 2005. Performing during the show in position 12, "Let's Get Loud" was not announced among the top 10 entries of the semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final. It was later revealed that Estonia placed twentieth out of the 25 participating countries in the semi-final with 31 points. Õnne 13 is an Estonian dramatic TV series that airs on ETV.
