Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2005
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2005 was the third edition of the annual Junior Eurovision Song Contest for young singers aged 8 to 15. On 26 November 2005, the contest was broadcast live from the Ethias Arena in Hasselt, Belgium, in a joint effort by the national broadcasters Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep (VRT) and Radio télévision belge de la communauté française (RTBF), in co-operation with the European Broadcasting Union. Marcel Vanthilt and Maureen Louys hosted the event. The show was not only broadcast live in the competing countries, it was also available on satellite worldwide and the Australian television channel SBS who acquired the rights to broadcast the show one month later. The theme of the show was ''Let's Get Loud'', standing for the new generation on the stage. Verhofstadt II Government
The Verhofstadt II Government was the federal government of Belgium from 12 July 2003 to 21 December 2007. It was the second government headed by Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt ( VLD). It was formed after the 2003 general election. It consisted of the Flemish Liberals and Democrats (VLD), the French-speaking Liberal Reformist Party (MR), the Flemish Socialist Party (SP.a) and the French-speaking Socialist Party (PS). Because it comprised liberals and socialists it was also known as a "purple" coalition. It was a continuation of the Verhofstadt I Government but without the Green parties. Adriaan Pattin
Adriaan Pattin (1914–2005) was a Belgian historian of medieval philosophy. His 1966 edition of the Pseudo-Aristotelian ''Liber de Causis'', although intended to be "provisional", was for decades the best version available to scholars. Life Pattin was born in Hasselt, Belgium, on 17 June 1914 and joined the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate at the age of 19. He made his vows in 1935 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1941. In 1947 he graduated Licentiate from the Higher Institute of Philosophy in the Catholic University of Leuven. In 1952 he obtained his doctorate with a thesis on being and essence in the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas. He also graduated Master of Arts from the University of Ottawa, where he later returned as a visiting professor. From 1962 until his retirement he was a researcher attached to the De Wulf-Mansion Centre for Ancient and Medieval Philosophy in Leuven. He died in Veurne on 15 August 2005. René Derolez
René Lodewijk Maurits Derolez (7 September 1921 – 24 March 2005) was a Belgian philologist who was Professor of English and Germanic Philology at Ghent University. He specialized in runology and the study of Old English literature and Germanic religion. Biography René Lodewijk Maurits Derolez was born in Aalst, Belgium on 7 September 1921. During the German occupation of Belgium during World War II, Derolez studies Germanic philology at the Ghent University. He served in the Allied forces during the liberation of Belgium. Derolez subsequently received a scholarship from the Belgian American Educational Foundation, and studied at Harvard University from 1946 to 1948. He received an MA at Harvard and his PhD summa cum laude at Ghent in 1947. He gained his habilitation at Ghent in 1954 with the thesis ''Runica Manuscripta''. Prince Emmanuel of Belgium (''Emmanuel Léopold Guillaume François Marie''; born 4 October 2005) is the younger son and third child of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium. Sabine Dardenne
Sabine Anne Renée Ghislaine Dardenne (born 28 October 1983) is a Belgian author. She was kidnapped at the age of twelve by the child molester and serial killer Marc Dutroux in 1996. Dardenne was one of Dutroux's last two victims. She and fellow captive Laetitia Delhez survived, though the bodies of four other kidnap victims and Dutroux's accomplice were found on the property. Kidnapping Dardenne was kidnapped by Dutroux on 28 May 1996, while riding her bicycle to school. Although just twelve years old, Dardenne fought back, pelting Dutroux with questions and demands. Junior Eurovision Song Contest
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest (often shortened to JESC, Junior Eurovision or Junior EuroSong) is an international song competition which has been organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) annually since 2003. It is held in a different European city each year, however the same city can host the contest more than once. The competition has many similarities to the Eurovision Song Contest from which its name is taken. Each participating broadcaster sends an act, the members of which are aged 9 to 14 on the day of the contest, and an original song lasting three minutes at most to compete against the other participating entries.
