2004 Zamboanga City Local Elections
Local elections were held in Zamboanga City on May 10, 2004, within the Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, 12 councilors and one representative from its lone district. Mayoral and vice mayoral elections Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat died of complications in January 2004, paving the mayoralty race for the ruling Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino wide open since she was the presumptive nominee running for a third term. Vice-Mayor Erbie Fabian took her place as acting mayor. Lobregat's son, incumbent Congressman Celso Lobregat became the standard-bearer of the LDP, and incumbent Mayor Fabian will run for the post left by Celso. Celso Lobregat
Celso L. Lobregat, III (born March 20, 1948), is a Filipino politician having served as Zamboanga City's mayor and congressman. Early life and career Lobregat comes from a long line of landlord-politicians from Mindanao. His grandfather Pablo Lorenzo, was once Mayor of Zamboanga City and a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1934. In the Quirino administration, Don Pablo Lorenzo held several cabinet positions, which included Secretary of Education and Secretary of Public Works. During the Macapagal administration, he was chair of the Development Bank of the Philippines. Celso's mother, Maria Clara Lobregat, was a Delegate to the 1971 Philippine Constitutional Convention and was a three-term Congresswoman of Zamboanga City, starting 1987. Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar (born September 7, 1966), also known as Beng Climaco, is a Filipina politician, and former mayor of Zamboanga City in Mindanao, Philippines. Prior to this she was councilor of the city's 1st district for two terms, and its vice mayor. She is the second woman to become a mayor of Zamboanga City. She unsuccessfully sought for a seat representing the 1st District of Zamboanga City in the 2022 Philippine general election. Erico Basilio Fabian
Erico Basilio Apolinario Fabian, locally known as Erbie Fabian, served in the Zamboanga City Council and served as vice mayor, mayor and a representative. Birth and Education Erbie, as he was fondly called, was born on September 12, 1957. His father was a well-known painter, Eric Fabian, and his mother, Gloria Apolinario Fabian, was a grade school teacher of the Ateneo de Zamboanga. He is the eldest of seven children—three boys and four girls. Fabian then took his elementary, high school and college education at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University. He then went on to obtain his nursing diploma at the Zamboanga General Hospital School of Nursing in 1978. Presidential elections, legislative elections and local elections were held in the Philippines on May 10, 2004. In the presidential election, incumbent president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo won a full six-year term as president, with a margin of just over one million votes over her leading opponent, highly popular movie actor Fernando Poe Jr. The elections were notable for several reasons. María Clara Rafols Lorenzo Lobregat (April 26, 1921 – January 2, 2004) was the first female mayor and also a representative to the Philippine Congress of Zamboanga City. The Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino () is a centre-right political party in the Philippines. There are no results available for the 2004 election for the House of Representatives, but according to the website of the House, the party held 7 out of 235 seats. Sangguniang Kabataan
Sangguniang Kabataan (abbreviated as SK; ) is a council meant to represent the youth in each barangay in the Philippines. It was put "on hold", but not quite abolished, prior to the 2013 barangay elections. In January 2016, the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act was signed into law which made some significant changes to the SK and initially scheduled new elections for October 2016. In March 2017, the elections were postponed anew to May 2018. The SK Chairman leads the Sangguniang Kabataan. A Local Youth Development Council (LYDC) composed of representatives of different local youth groups supports the SK and its programs. The Sangguniang Kabataan is the successor of the Kabataang Barangay (KB; ) which was abolished by the Local Government Code of 1991.
