Vahktang Iagorashvili
Vakhtang "Vaho" Iagorashvili (born April 5, 1964 in Tbilisi, Georgia) is a Soviet modern pentathlete, who has been a member of three different Olympic teams during his sporting career. Iagorashvili emerged as the top favorite to win the men's individual and team modern pentathlon in the late 1980s. As a competitor for the Soviet Union, he had won the bronze medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, and gold at the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle, became a three-time national champion for the team, and claimed multiple titles at the world championships. He also won three European titles (two golds and one bronze for the individual and team events). After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Iagorashvili retired from his sport, and emigrated to the United States to work as a physical education instructor at the Austin Community College in Austin, Texas. Paulina Boenisz
Paulina Joanna Boenisz (born 28 September 1978 in Warsaw) is a three-time Olympic modern pentathlete from Poland. She is also a six-time Polish national champion and a multiple-time medalist at the World Championships, where she won four golds for both women's team and relay events. Anastasiya Prokopenko, nee Samusevich ( be, Настасся Валер’еўна Пракапенка (Самусевіч); Łacinka: Nastassia Samusievič Prakapienka; born 20 September 1985) is a Belarusian modern pentathlete who competed at three Summer Olympics. Career In 2018, she was awarded the bronze medal of the women's competition at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, following the disqualification of Ukraine's Viktoriya Tereshchuk, due to a doping offense. She finished sixth in 2012. Prokopenko also set a world record time of 10:20.90 in the combined running and shooting segment. Prokopenko also won a team gold medal at the 2007 World Modern Pentathlon Championships in Berlin, Germany, along with her compatriots Tatsiana Mazurkevich and Hanna Vasilionak. Joanna Clark (pentathlete)
Joanna Clark (1978 - 4 August 2022) was professor of environmental science at the University of Reading. She worked on aspects of carbon and water cycles in terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems from test-tube to catchment scale. She is founder and was director of the Loddon Observatory, which aims to bring together academia, charities, public sector and business to support sustainable societies. Education and research career Clark completed a BSc in geography at the University of Durham in 1999, followed by an MSc in monitoring, modelling and management of environmental change at King's College London in 2000. She completed a PhD in physical geography at the University of Leeds in 2005, before undertaking postdoctoral research associate positions at Leeds, Bangor and Imperial College London. Georgina Harland
Georgina Claire Seccombe (née Harland; born 14 April 1978) is a former modern pentathlete from Great Britain. Having been a reserve for the British team for the 2000 Summer Olympics, she was chosen for the team proper for the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece, winning the bronze medal in the women's individual event. She retired from professional sport at the end of 2008 due to a career ending injury ahead of the 2008 Games. Early life Georgina Harland was involved in sport from an early age, having taken up riding with The Pony Club, swimming with the City of Canterbury Swimming Club and cross-country running for Great Britain. Kate Allenby
Katherine Fiona “Kate” Allenby MBE (born 16 March 1974) is a British modern pentathlete who competed in two Summer Olympics, taking the bronze medal at the 2000 Games and placing in 8th place in 2004. She has won medals at four World Championships, and after retiring from sport, she became a physical education teacher in Bath, England. Early life She was born in Tavistock, Devon, but lived in Australia during her childhood. Her father ran three London Marathons and played field hockey at the county level. Allenby joined The Pony Club and began to compete in tetrathlon, which features all the same events as the modern pentathlon except for the fencing event. Her original inspiration for getting involved in athletics came from Sebastian Coe's victory in the men's 1500 metres at the 1980 Summer Olympics, and she dreamt of competing at the Olympics.
