The 2004 United States presidential election in Wisconsin took place on November 2, 2004, and was part of the 2004 United States presidential election. Voters chose 10 representatives, or electors to the Electoral College, who voted for president and vice president. Wisconsin was won by Democratic nominee John Kerry by a 0.38% margin of victory. Prior to the election, most news organizations considered the state a toss-up, or a crucial swing state, and faced similar political scrutiny to neighboring Michigan, Minnesota, and Iowa. On election day, Kerry barely carried the state over President George W. Bush. 2000 United States Presidential Election In Wisconsin
The 2000 United States presidential election in Wisconsin took place on November 7, 2000, and was part of the 2000 United States presidential election. Voters chose 11 representatives, or electors to the Electoral College, who voted for president and vice president. Wisconsin was won by Vice President Al Gore by a slim 0.22% margin of victory, a mere difference of 5,708 votes. This was the first time since 1988, and only the second time since 1960 that Wisconsin did not vote for the overall winner of a presidential election. This was the last time that Wisconsin voted to the right of neighboring Iowa. Wisconsin was won by a narrow margin by Gore by less than 6,000 votes. 2004 Wisconsin Democratic Presidential Primary
The 2004 Wisconsin Democratic presidential primary took place on February 17, 2004 as part of the 2004 Democratic Party presidential primaries. The delegate allocation is Proportional. The candidates are awarded delegates in proportion to the percentage of votes received and is open to registered Democrats only. A total of 72 (of 87) delegates are awarded proportionally. A 15 percent threshold is required to receive delegates. John Kerry won the primary with John Edwards coming in second. Results Analysis Although Kerry was gaining momentum, he won Wisconsin with just 39.6% of the vote and won with a margin of slightly over 5%. Edwards did very well in the state, winning several counties and even won Wisconsin's 5th congressional district. Edwards reached 40% in 5 counties, and Kerry did win a majority of the counties in the state.
