2004 Thomas Cup
The 2004 Thomas & Uber Cup was held from 7 May to 16 May 2004 in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was the 23rd edition of World Men's Team Badminton Championships, Thomas Cup and 20th edition of World Women's Team Badminton Championships, Uber Cup. After a 12-year drought China finally lifted their fifth title of Thomas Cup and also won their ninth title of Uber Cup. Host city selection Indonesia, Japan, and the United States are the countries to submit a bid for hosting the event. Indonesia was selected as host during IBF council meeting in Birmingham. Teams The following nations from 5 continents, shown by region, qualified for the 2004 Thomas & Uber Cup. Of the 16 nations, defending champions of Uber Cup, China, and host nation as well as defending champion of Thomas Cup, Indonesia and its Uber Cup team qualified automatically and did not play the qualification round. Istora Gelora Bung Karno
Gelora Bung Karno Sports Palace ( id, Istana Olahraga Gelora Bung Karno, abbreviated as ''Istora''), the formerly name ''Istora Senayan'' is an indoor sporting arena located in Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, Jakarta, Indonesia. The capacity of the arena after 2018 reopening is 7,166. This arena is usually used for badminton tournaments. Its maiden event was the 1961 Thomas Cup. It was also used during the 1962 Asian Games and was renovated to host the 2018 edition. Its first post-renovation event was the 2018 Indonesia Masters. During the latter Games, it hosted the badminton and later stages of basketball events. The arena originally was planned to stage the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and becoming the only Indonesian venue in the three-country joint bid but was moved to a newly-built arena inside the complex. Lars Paaske
Lars Paaske (born 18 January 1976) is a badminton player from Denmark. Career He competed in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's doubles with partner Jonas Rasmussen. After an initial bye in the first round, then were defeated in the next round by Yim Bang-eun and Kim Yong-hyun of Korea. Paaske then competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing in men's doubles again with partner Jonas Rasmussen where they were chasing the one medal lacking in their collection: An Olympic medal. The pair lost in the semi final, and then again in the match for 3rd place to finish with a disappointing 4th spot. Paaske won the gold medal at the 2008 European Badminton Championships in men's doubles with Jonas Rasmussen.
