2004 Masters Of Curling
The 2004 M&M Meat Shops Masters of Curling was held from December 9 to 12, 2004 at the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. The event was one of the four men's Grand Slams of the 2004–05 curling season. Winnipeg's Jeff Stoughton rink won the event, defeating Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan's Pat Simmons rink in the final, 5–4. Stoughton won the event by stealing a point in the 11th end, and took home $30,000 for the win. Simmons won $18,000. It was Stoughton's second career Grand Slam win. The event had a triple knockout format. The top 12 teams (as of August 30) in the world qualified, plus the top 2 teams on the World Curling Tour money list (as of November 21), plus one European team and one sponsor exemption. The total purse for the event was $100,000. The WCT second ranked Glenn Howard rink and the fifth ranked Wayne Middaugh rink did not participate, as they were participating in the playdowns for the 2005 Ontario Kia Cup. Humboldt, Saskatchewan
Humboldt is a city in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located 113 km east of Saskatoon at the junction of Highway 5 and Highway 20. Wayne Middaugh
Robert Wayne Middaugh (born September 20, 1967) is a Canadian curler. Born in Brampton, Ontario, Middaugh resides in Victoria Harbour, Ontario. He is the only player to have won the Canadian Men's Curling Championship (known as the Brier) at three different positions: skip (1998), third (2012), and second (1993). He was inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 2020. He currently coaches the Anna Hasselborg rink from Sweden. Career Middaugh is a three-time world champion, once as second for Russ Howard in 1993, as a skip in 1998, and as third for Glenn Howard in 2012. Mark Dacey
Mark Dacey (born June 22, 1966) is a Canadian curler originally from Saskatchewan. He was based at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Dacey is a former Canadian men's curling champion skip, having won the 2004 Nokia Brier. He defeated Randy Ferbey's team, ending their 3-year Brier winning streak. Dacey went on to win a bronze medal at the 2004 Ford World Curling Championship. Competitive history Mark Dacey was a runner-up in the 1995 Brier, as the vice-skip for team Saskatchewan (skipped by Brad Heidt). Rob Fowler (curler)
Robert Fowler (born June 25, 1975 in Brandon, Manitoba) is a Canadian curler. Career Fowler was a member of the Jeff Stoughton rink from 2006 to 2010. He was a member of the team at the 2009 Tim Hortons Brier which lost in the final to Kevin Martin. Prior to playing with Stoughton, Fowler played for such skips as Allan Lyburn, Kerry Burtnyk and Brent Scales. Fowler has played in four Briers. In addition to the 2009 Brier, he also played in the 2007 Tim Hortons Brier, 2010 Tim Hortons Brier and 2012 Tim Hortons Brier. As a skip, he led his team into the 2012 Safeway Championship as the tenth ranked team in the World Curling Tour. Kerry Burtnyk (born November 24, 1958) is a Canadian curler from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He grew up in Reston, Manitoba. He is a two time Canadian champion skip, and the 1995 World Champion skip. He is currently the coach of the Darcy Robertson rink. Career Burtnyk's first Brier in 1981 would be a success for him. His Manitoba team of Mark Olson, Jim Spencer and Ron Kammerlock defeated Northern Ontario, skipped by Al Hackner in the final. Burtnyk became the youngest skip to win the Brier in history, as he was 22 years and 4 months old at the time. At that year's World Championship, Burtnyk would have to settle for the bronze medal. Burtnyk returned to the Brier in 1988, but he missed the playoffs despite a 7–4 record.
