2004 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships
The 3rd International Paralympic Committee, IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships was held between April 13, 2004 and April 24, 2004 at Kempehallen in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. Örnsköldsvik was also the host of the first 1976 Winter Paralympics, Paralympic Winter Games in 1976. Participating countries: 104 athletes from eight nations Canada, Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Norway, Sweden, United States. The USA, Norway and Sweden were automatically qualified for their performance at the 2002 Winter Paralympics, Salt Lake 2002 Paralympic Winter Games, while the other five teams were selected through regional championships. 2000 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships
The 2nd International Paralympic Committee, IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships was held between March 20, 2000 and March 25, 2000 at the E Center in West Valley City, Utah, United States.The same place where would host the same sport two years later as the first test event for the 2002 Winter Paralympics, Paralympic Winter Games in 2002. Participating countries: Canada, Estonia, Japan, Norway, Sweden and United States. Final rankings Canada beat Norway 2-1 to win the gold medal. The game went into overtime and more than 6,000 fans cheered on as Canada’s Shawn Matheson scored the winning goal. Alexi Salamone (born 17 June 1987 in Bryansk, Russia, Soviet Union) is a Paralympian ice sledge hockey player from the United States. Early life Salamone was born near Chernobyl, the site of a nuclear accident that took place 14 months prior to his birth. He was born with deformed legs, both of which were amputated at the Children's Institute of Prosthetics in Moscow when he was four years old. Orphaned, he was adopted by the Salamones, a couple from Buffalo, New York, and moved to the United States at the age of six.
