2000 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships
The 2nd International Paralympic Committee, IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships was held between March 20, 2000 and March 25, 2000 at the E Center in West Valley City, Utah, United States.The same place where would host the same sport two years later as the first test event for the 2002 Winter Paralympics, Paralympic Winter Games in 2002. Participating countries: Canada, Estonia, Japan, Norway, Sweden and United States. Final rankings Canada beat Norway 2-1 to win the gold medal. The game went into overtime and more than 6,000 fans cheered on as Canada’s Shawn Matheson scored the winning goal. The victory gave Canada, the country that created the sport, its first gold medal in sledge hockey, and avenged a gold-medal loss to Norway at the 1998 Winter Paralympics, 1998 Paralympics in Nagano, Nagano, Nagano. Hervé Lord
Hervé Lord (born March 3, 1958) is a Canadian ice sledge hockey player. He was born in Saint-Pamphile, Quebec, Canada. In the Paralympic Games, Lord has won numerous medals as a member of the Canadian team including bronze (1994), silver (1998) and gold (2006). He also competed with teams which finished in fourth place in 2002 and 2010. Lord took the athletes' oath on behalf of all competitors at the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver. Roger Christian Hansen (born August 28, 1961) is an American former professional baseball player and a former professional baseball coach. Atle Haglund
Atle Haglund (born 10 April 1964) is a Norwegian ice sledge hockey player and ice sledge speed racer. He lost both his legs in a traffic accident at the age of eight. During the 1984 Winter Paralympics, Haglund participated in four disciplines of ice sledge speed racing. He won a gold in the 1,000 meter, and a silver in the 100 meter. Helge Bjørnstad (born 14 October 1971) is a Norwegian ice sledge hockey player. As a member of the Norwegian ice sledge hockey team he has three silver (1994, 2002, 2006) from the Paralympic Games.
