2004 European Touring Car Championship Season
The 2004 FIA European Touring Car Championship season was the last European Touring Car Championship season. For 2005, the European Championship would become the World Touring Car Championship, and a one-off European Touring Car Cup would be held. The season began at Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Monza on 28 March, and finished at Dubai Autodrome, Dubai after twenty races over ten meetings. The Drivers' Championship title was won by Andy Priaulx for Racing Bart Mampaey, BMW Team Great Britain, who tied on points with Schnitzer Motorsport, BMW Team Deutschland's Dirk Müller (racing driver), Dirk Müller, although Priaulx earned the title due to his greater number of victories during the season. N.Technology, AutoDelta's Gabriele Tarquini was third. BMW won the Manufacturers Championship ahead of Alfa Romeo and SEAT. The FIA European Touring Car Cup was an annual touring car racing event, which had been held at various locations across Europe from 2005 to 2017. Unlike in previous years where it was a one-off event, in 2010 the series was a three round event. History It was created when the European Touring Car Championship finished at the end of 2004, being superseded by the World Touring Car Championship. The cars that are eligible are those complying with the FIA Super 2000, Super 2000 Diesel, Super Production and Super 1600 technical regulations. James Thompson (born 26 April 1974 in York, England) is a British auto racing driver. He has twice been champion of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), and was third in the 2007 World Touring Car Championship. Kurt Mollekens (born 8 March 1973 in Bonheiden) is a Belgian race car driver and team owner. Mollekens debuted as a driver in top-level karting during 1990, staying there until 1992 when he moved up to Formula Ford. His debut Formula Ford year was successful, him winning all three titles he challenged for – Benelux Formula Ford, Dutch Formula Ford and Belgian Formula Ford. Mollekens also achieved success in the 1993 British Formula Ford season, which helped him into Formula Opel Euroseries (1994) and the British Formula 3 Championship (1995). Frank Diefenbacher (born 19 March 1982 in Pforzheim) is a German auto racing driver. Career Diefenbacher won the German Junior Kart Championship in 1996. His first steps out of karting were in Formula Ford in Germany in 1998, where he finished third. He finished fourth in Formula König in 1999. Diefenbacher stepped up to the German Formula Three Championship in 2000. He finished tenth in his first year, but improved in 2001 to finish third, before finishing fourth in 2002. In 2003 Diefenbacher was signed by SEAT Sport for their European Touring Car Championship campaign. Jordi Gené Guerrero (born 5 December 1970) is a racing driver who competed in the World Touring Car Championship between 2005 and 2010. His younger brother, Marc is also a ex-racing driver and is currently a Brand Ambassador for the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One team. Rickard Rydell (born 22 September 1967) is a retired Swedish racing driver. He won the 1998 British Touring Car Championship, the 2011 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, and has also been a frontrunner in the European/World Touring Car Championship. Gianni Morbidelli (born 13 January 1968) is an Italian racing driver. He participated in 70 Formula One Grands Prix, debuting on 11 March 1990.
