2003 U.S. Figure Skating Championships
The 2003 U.S. Figure Skating Championships took place between January 12–19, 2003 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. Medals were awarded in four colors: gold (first), silver (second), bronze (third), and pewter (fourth) in four disciplines – men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing – across three levels: senior, junior, and novice. The event was used to determine the U.S. teams for the 2003 World Championships, 2003 Four Continents Championships, and 2003 World Junior Championships. "Disaster in Dallas" The 2003 Nationals are generally considered to be one of the worst-skated championships in U.S. championships history with the name "Disaster in Dallas" being given to the event. Timothy Richard Goebel (born September 10, 1980) is an American former competitive figure skater. He is the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, 2002 Olympic bronze medalist. He was the first person to land a Quadruple jump, quadruple salchow jump in competition and the first person to land three quadruple jumps in one program. He landed 76 career quadruple jumps before his retirement in 2006. Personal life Goebel was born on September 10, 1980, in Evanston, Illinois. He was adopted through Catholic Charities by Ginny and Richard Goebel as an infant. Goebel initially attended Loyola Marymount University. Benjamin Edward Miller (born June 17, 1983) is an American former competitive figure skater who competed in men's singles. He is the 2002 Nebelhorn Trophy silver medalist, 2002 Golden Spin of Zagreb bronze medalist, and 1999 JGP Slovenia silver medalist. He competed at the 2001 World Junior Championships, placing 15th, and appeared once on the senior Grand Prix series, placing tenth at the 2002 NHK Trophy. Ryan Scott Bradley (born November 17, 1983) is an American former competitive figure skater. He is the 2008 Skate Canada International silver medalist, the 2009 Skate America bronze medalist, the 2011 U.S. national champion, and a three-time U.S. Collegiate champion. Personal life Bradley was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri, and comes from a family of skaters. His sister, Becky, is a skating coach and former competitive skater, and his mother is a USFSA judge.
