The first issue was released in January 1990. It was modeled after Western business journalism. The newspaper's title is spelled in Russian with a terminal hard sign (ъ) – a letter that is silent at the end of a word in modern Russian, and was thus largely abolished by the post-revolution Russian spelling reform, in reference to a pre-Soviet newspaper of the same name active between 1909 and 1917. Valery Serdyukov
Valery Pavlovich Serdyukov (russian: Вале́рий Па́влович Сердюко́в; born 9 November 1945, in Kharashouka, Homiel Voblast, Byelorussian SSR) is Russian politician who served as governor of Leningrad Oblast in Russia (1998–2012). Serdyukov graduated from the Saint Petersburg Mining Institute with a degree in economics. He was appointed by the oblast Governor as Vice-Governor in charge of industry, energy, and the environment in 1996, made Lieutenant Governor in December 1997, and served as Acting Governor since September 18, 1998. Serdyukov was elected Governor in 1999 and again in 2003. In 2007, he was reappointed as Governor by Vladimir Putin, the then-President of Russia, following a Kremlin-sponsored law which allowed regional governors to be appointed by the President instead of being popularly elected. Eduard Ergartovich Rossel (russian: Эдуард Эргартович Россель; born 8 October 1937) is a Russian politician, who was the governor (1995–2009) of Sverdlovsk Oblast, an oblast in Russia. He returned into office in 1995. He is a member of the Federation Council of Russia. Childhood and war Eduard Rossel was born in Bor, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast to Volga German parents. His father was executed by the NKVD in 1938 and he was left living with his mother, who at that time found a Ukrainian man and married him instead. Rossel's original language was German, but due to his mother's marriage to a Soviet national, the German language was abandoned and Russian kicked in. He lived with his mother and stepfather until 1942, when both of his parents were forced into oppressive “labor camps” in Ukhta. Sverdlovsk Oblast ( rus, Свердловская область, Sverdlovskaya oblast) is a federal subject (an oblast) of Russia located in the Ural Federal District. Its administrative center is the city of Yekaterinburg, formerly known as Sverdlovsk. Its population is 4,297,747 (according to the 2010 Census). Geography Most of the oblast is spread over the eastern slopes of the Middle and North Urals and the Western Siberian Plain. Mikhail Mikhaylovich Prusak (russian: Михаил Михайлович Прусак; born 23 February 1960) was the governor of Novgorod Oblast, Russia from 1991 to 2007. Biography Born and raised in Western Ukraine, in 1979 he graduated from the Kolomyia Pedagogical School. Then he worked for a year as a teacher of an extended day group in a rural school in Halych District. After graduating from the Higher Komsomol School he worked as the second and (since May 1987) the first secretary of Kholmsky District branch of Komsomol. From 1988 to 1991 he headed a ''sovkhoz''.
