European Curling Championships
The European Curling Championships are annual curling tournaments held in Europe between various European nations. The European Curling Championships are usually held in early to mid December. The tournament also acts as a qualifier for the World Championships, where the top eight nations qualify. In November 1974, a six-nations tournament was held in Zürich, Switzerland which included Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, and Norway. In March 1975, it was decided that the championships would be competed in December. At the semi-annual general meeting in Gävle, Sweden in April 2004, a new competition called the European Mixed Curling Championships was formed. Dorthe Holm
Dorthe Holm (born 3 July 1972) is a Danish curler from Kastrup. Career Holm skipped the Danish women's team at the 2006 Winter Olympics. The team were the only athletes Denmark sent to the games, as such Holm carried the flag for Denmark in the opening ceremonies. Holm has had a long curling career, which internationally began in 1987 at the European Junior Championships. By 1994, Holm had competed in six World Junior Curling Championships, winning bronze in 1993 and 1994. She skipped Denmark in 1993, and was the third for Angelina Jensen in 1994. At the 1992 Winter Olympics she was an alternate for the Danish team, when curling was just a demonstration event. The team finished in fourth place. In 1994, Denmark won the European Curling Championships, and Holm played third for the team that was skipped by Helena Blach Lavrsen. After three unsuccessful trips to the World Curling Championships, Holm finally won a medal in 1997, a bronze, when she played second for Blach Lavrsen. ... Anette Norberg
Anette Norberg (born 12 November 1966) is a retired Swedish curler from Härnösand. She and her team were the Olympic women's curling champions in 2006 and 2010. After winning the 2006 Women's Curling tournament in Turin over Mirjam Ott's Swiss team, she led her team to victory for gold over Cheryl Bernard's Canadian team in the 2010 Women's Curling tournament in Vancouver; becoming the first skip in the history of curling to successfully defend an Olympic title. Her team that retired after the 2010 Olympics (although she herself continued until 2013) is regarded as one of the best women's curling teams in history, and she is often regarded as one of the best female skips in history, particularly after adding yet another world title in 2011 with a new younger team.
