Michigan's 13th Senate district is one of 38 districts in the Michigan Senate. The 13th district was created by the 1850 Michigan Constitution, as the 1835 constitution only permitted a maximum of eight senate districts. It has been represented by Democrat Rosemary Bayer since 2023, following her victory over Republican Jason Rhines. Geography District 13 encompasses parts of Oakland and Wayne counties. 2011 Apportionment Plan District 13, as dictated by the 2011 Apportionment Plan, covered eastern Oakland County in the northern suburbs of Detroit, including Troy, Rochester Hills, Royal Oak, Berkley, Clawson, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, and Rochester. Michael Dean Bishop (born March 18, 1967) is an American attorney and politician who was the U.S. representative for from 2015 to 2019. He is a member of the Republican Party. He previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003, and the Michigan State Senate from 2003 to 2010 where he served as majority leader. Bishop lost his reelection bid in the 2018 midterm elections to Democratic nominee Elissa Slotkin. Alan Bruce Sanborn (born July 21, 1957) is a retired politician from the U.S. state of Michigan, serving parts of three terms in both the Michigan House of Representatives and Michigan Senate. Biography Sanborn is the son of Lois and Kenneth Sanborn. Kenneth Sanborn is a former member of the Michigan House of Representatives, former Circuit Court judge, and one of the attorneys who undertook the successful defense of Milo Radulovich in 1953. The Radulovich case was a major factor in helping to turn public opinion in the United States against McCarthyism. Sanborn was born and raised in Mount Clemens, Michigan. Raymond E. Basham (born May 24, 1945) is a politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. He was a Democratic member of the Michigan Senate, representing the 8th District from 2003 to 2009.
