2002 Enfield Council Election
The 2002 Enfield Council election took place on 2 May 2002 to elect members of Enfield London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election with boundary changes since the last election in 1998 reducing the number of seats by 3. The Conservative party gained overall control of the council from the Labour party. The 1998 Enfield Council election took place on 7 May 1998 to elect members of Enfield London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Labour Party stayed in overall control of the council. This was the first time that Labour were re-elected for a second term in Enfield. They later won a historic third term in 2018 after winning again in Enfield in 2010 and 2014. Election result At the same as the election Enfield saw 67.2% vote in favour of the 1998 Greater London Authority referendum and 32.8% against, on a 32.8% turnout. Overall turnout at the election was 33.26%. The 2006 Enfield Council election took place on 4 May 2006 to elect members of Enfield London Borough Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. Election result The Conservatives maintained a majority of 5 on the council, after losing 6 seats but also gaining 1 seat, to have 34 councillors. Labour made a net gain of 3 seats to have 27 councillors, while the remaining 2 seats were won by the Save Chase Farm group. Save Chase Farm had been formed to oppose any plans to close accident and emergency services at Chase Farm Hospital and gained 1 seat in each of Chase and Town wards. Enfield London Borough Council
Enfield London Borough Council is the local authority for the London Borough of Enfield in Greater London, England. It is one of 32 London borough councils in the United Kingdom capital of London. History There have previously been a number of local authorities responsible for the Enfield area. The current local authority was first elected in 1964, a year before formally coming into its powers and prior to the creation of the London Borough of Enfield on 1 April 1965. The House of Commons Library is the library and information resource of the lower house of the British Parliament. It was established in 1818, although its original 1828 construction was destroyed during the burning of Parliament in 1834. Joanne McCartney is a British barrister and Labour Party and Co-operative Party politician. Since 2004, she has served as a member of the London Assembly, representing Enfield & Haringey. Following the election of Sadiq Khan as Mayor of London in 2016, McCartney has served as Statutory Deputy Mayor of London.
