2001–02 FC Basel Season
The 2001–02 season was the Fussball Club Basel 1893's 109th season in their existence and their 8th consecutive season in the Nationalliga A, the top flight of Swiss football. Basel played their home games in the newly constructed St. Jakob-Park complex. Club chairman was René C. Jäggi for the sixth consecutive season. Overview Off-season and pre-season Christian Gross was the first team trainer for the third successive season. The club's main aim for the 2001–02 season was to win the Swiss Nationalliga A championship title. The second aim was to win the cup title. Their third aim was to stay in the 2001 UEFA Intertoto Cup as long as possible, if possible, win the final and thus to secure that the team advanced at least to the UEFA Cup. FC Basel
Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Basel have competed in European competitions every season since 1999–2000. They have qualified for the Group stages of the Champions League more times than any other Swiss club – a total of seven times – and are the only Swiss club to have ever qualified to the Group stages directly. Marco Streller
Marco Streller (born 18 June 1981) is a Swiss former footballer who played as a striker and is best known for his years with FC Basel and the Switzerland national team. He was the sporting director of FC Basel from June 2017 until June 2019. Since February 2020 he works as a TV expert for the Swiss Pay TV broadcaster Teleclub. Club career Youth football Streller was born in Basel and began his youth football with local club FC Aesch, coming through the ranks between 1988 and 1997. He then played three seasons for FC Arlesheim in the 2. Liga. Basel Streller started his professional football career with local club FC Basel under manager Christian Gross in 2000. Jean-Michel Tchouga
Jean-Michel Tchouga (born December 20, 1978) is a former footballer from Bafoussam in Cameroon. He played in the position as striker. Career Early years Tchouga played his youth football with local club KSA Yaoundé. He was scouted by Swiss team Yverdon-Sport and signed for them during the summer of 1997 joining their youth department. He advanced to their first team a year later under head coach Lucien Favre and achieved promotion with them at the end of the 1998–99 season. Tchouga stayed with YS and was a key-player as the team achieved the championship round of the 1999–2000. One of the most important games was on 2 October 1999 as Yverdon won 2–1 against Basel. André Muff
André Muff (born 28 January 1981) is a former Swiss footballer. He last played for FC Concordia Basel. He has also appeared in the squad four times for the Switzerland national football team, but played only twice. On 18 June 2009 he retired from professional football due to his reoccurring injuries. Club career Muff began in the youth program of Grasshopper Club Zürich in 1997, and was transferred to FC Basel on a four-year contract in 2000. After one year in Basel, Muff was aggressively loaned in 2001 to FC Lucerne and AC Lugano, before he returned to Basel. He was again on loan for the year 2002 to FC Lucerne and then loaned to FC Zürich in 2003. When his FC Basel contract expired over summer 2004, Grasshopper Club Zürich signed Muff for €1 million, bringing him back to the club where his career began. Udinese Calcio, commonly referred to as Udinese, is a professional Football in Italy, Italian association football, football club based in Udine, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, that currently plays in Serie A. Feliciano Magro
Feliciano "Felix" Magro (born 2 February 1979) is a former footballer. Born in Switzerland, he represented both that nation and Italy at youth international levels. Magro's father is from Capo d'Orlando, Sicily and his mother is from Lucerne. Career Magro was signed by Udinese in January 2000, signing a contract until 2004. He was loaned back to Switzerland, first to FC Basel and then to FC Zürich, but he broken his leg in 2002 and had to rest for a year. He came to Djurgårdens IF on free transfer from Landskrona BoIS at the start of the 2005 season, and he returned from a loan to AC Lugano. Sportklub Rapid Wien (), commonly known as Rapid Vienna, is an Austrian football club playing in the country's capital city of Vienna. Iván Knez
Iván Knez (born 21 July 1974) is a former footballer who played as a defender during the 1990s and 2000s. Football career Although he was born in Argentina, Knez was raised in Switzerland and started playing football in the youth movement of the local club SC Emmen. He began his professional career with FC Lucerne in 1994. After five years at the club, he moved to FC Basel in 1999. Knez joined Basel's first team for their 1999–2000 season under new head coach Christian Gross. FC Tirol Innsbruck was an Austrian association football club from Innsbruck, Tyrol which existed between 1993 and 2002, when bankruptcy was declared. History It was – after the establishment of FC Swarovski Tirol in 1986 – the second split-off of FC Wacker Innsbruck, whose Bundesliga license it adopted at the end of the 1992–93 season. Marco Zwyssig
Marco Zwyssig (born 24 October 1971) is a Swiss former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. He is best remembered for his time at FC St. Gallen and FC Basel. He also played for the Switzerland national football team. Following his retirement from active football Zwyssig works partly independently, partly as a course leader and lecturer in adult education. Christian Giménez (footballer, Born 1974)
Christian Eduardo Giménez (born 13 November 1974) is an Argentine former footballer who played as a striker. Career Born in Buenos Aires, Giménez started his career as a 17-year-old in the Argentine lower leagues, playing for Club Atlético San Miguel. In 1995, he was signed by the Boca Juniors, but he only played for them for one season before being loaned out to fellow Argentine team Nueva Chicago. In 1997, Boca Juniors sold Giménez to Swiss team FC Lugano, in 2001 he was sold to fellow Swiss outfit FC Basel. Giménez made his debut for Basel on 18 July 2001 in the 3–3 draw with St. Gallen and his first goal for the club followed during the 3–1 home win against the Young Boys on 11 August.
