The 2001 Laval municipal election took place on November 4, 2001, to elect a mayor and city councillors in Laval, Quebec. Gilles Vaillancourt was elected to a fourth term as mayor, and his municipal party won every seat on city council. Laval, Quebec
Laval (; ) is a city in Quebec, Canada. It is in the southwest of the province, north of Montreal. It is the largest suburb of Montreal, the third-largest city in the province after Montreal and Quebec City, and the thirteenth largest city in Canada with a population of 422,993 in 2016. Laval is geographically separated from the mainland to the north by the Rivière des Mille Îles, and from the Island of Montreal to the south by the Rivière des Prairies. Laval occupies all of Île Jésus as well as the Îles Laval. Laval forms its own administrative region in Quebec which constitutes the 13th region of the 17 administrative regions of Quebec as well as a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and census division (CD) with geographical code 65. Gilles Vaillancourt
Gilles Vaillancourt (born January 9, 1941) is a former Canadian politician. He served as the mayor of Laval, Quebec, from June 8, 1989 until November 9, 2012, when he was charged, and ultimately found guilty, with corruption and fraud. François Gaudreau
François Gaudreau (born February 17, 1957 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian politician and was the Action démocratique du Québec Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Vimont from 2002 to 2003. Gaudreau was first elected to the National Assembly in a by-election, held on June 17, 2002, with 50% of the vote. Liberal candidate Vincent Auclair finished second with 33% of the vote. In the 2003 election, Gaudreau finished third with 19% of the vote. Auclair won, with 46% of the vote. In the 2007 election, Gaudreau attempted to win the seat back from Auclair. He finished second with 31% of the vote. Auclair won with 36% of the vote.
