2001 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship
The 2001 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 107th staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny County Board in 1887. Graigue-Ballycallan GAA, Graigue-Ballycallan were the 2000 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship, defending champions. On 14 October 2001, O'Loughlin Gaels GAA, O'Loughlin Gaels won the title after a 1–17 to 1–06 defeat of Graigue-Ballycallan in the final at Nowlan Park. It was their first ever championship title. Dicksboro GAA
Dicksboro is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny City, Ireland. History Dicksboro GAA Club, founded in 1909. The club takes its name from Dicksboro townland, located next to Kilkenny Airport, the current ground is Palmerstown, to the west of the city. Dicksboro entered and won the junior championship of 1910. Dicksboro entered the senior championship in 1911. Dicksboro had no team from 1961 to 1969, until the club was reformed. Dicksboro officially opened the grounds in Palmerstown in June 1990. Ray Heffernan (hurler)
Raymond Heffernan (born 26 January 1963) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Glenmore and was also a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lined out at midfield or as a forward. Career Heffernan first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Glenmore club before eventually joining the club's top adult team. After junior and intermediate successes, he went on to win a total of five County Senior Championship titles and was team captain for the All-Ireland Club Championship success in 1991. Heffernan first appeared on the inter-county scene as part of the Kilkenny team that won the All-Ireland Minor Championship title in 1981, before later winning an All-Ireland Under-21 Championship title in 1984. His underage and club successes saw him drafted onto the Kilkenny senior hurling team alongside his brother Christy in 1984. Henry Shefflin
Henry Shefflin (born 11 January 1979) is an Irish hurling manager and former player who is the current manager of the Galway senior hurling team. In his playing career he was nicknamed "King Henry" because of his directive style, dominance, competitive spirit and leadership on the field. A versatile forward who started out in the corner, Shefflin made his name in more commanding positions as a centre or full-forward. He is widely regarded to be one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, with many former players, commentators and fans rating him as the number one player of all time. David Buggy
David Joseph Buggy (born 20 March 1975) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Erin's Own and was also a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lined out in the forwards. Career Buggy first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Erin's Own club in Castlecomer before quickly joining the club's top adult teams as a dual player. He enjoyed County Intermediate Championship successes in 2003 and 2008. Buggy first appeared on the inter-county scene with the Kilkenny minor team and scored 1-03 against Galway in the 1993 All-Ireland final. His subsequent tenure with the Kilkenny under-21 team saw defeat by Tipperary in the 1995 All-Ireland final. Buggy was drafted onto the Kilkenny senior hurling team by manager Ollie Walsh in 1994, however, he remained on the fringes of the team for a number of seasons without making a breakthrough. Adrian Ronan
Adrian Ronan (born 8 June 1970) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a full-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Ballycallan, County Kilkenny, Ronan first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first lined up with the Kilkenny minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1988-89 league. Ronan went on to become a regular member of the starting fifteen and won two All-Ireland medals, three Leinster medal and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Ronan won one Railway Cup medal. Erin's Own GAA (Kilkenny)
Erin's Own Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1885 and since then has been the main sporting organization in the Castlecomer area in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Erin's Own fielded teams in 11 different grades of hurling and in 7 grades of gaelic football in 2006, and is currently undertaking major development at its new ground, Canon Kearns Park. Callan, County Kilkenny
Callan () is a town and civil parish in County Kilkenny in Ireland. Situated 16 km (10 mi) south of Kilkenny on the N76 road to Clonmel, it is near the border with County Tipperary. It is the second largest town in the county, and had a population of 2,475 at the 2016 census. Callan is the chief town of the barony of the same name. Glenmore GAA
Glenmore is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the south of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1888 and has achieved hurling success at county, provincial and national level. Glenmore has also provided the Kilkenny intercounty team with several top players. History Glenmore first distinguished itself in Kilkenny on the football field, and it was only in the 1940s that hurling started to take over. Early success came in 1953, when the hurlers won the County Junior Championship. By the 1960s, Glenmore were among the top sides in the county, narrowly losing out to Bennettsbridge in the 1960 and 1964 county finals. Ballyhale Shamrocks is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Ballyhale in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Ballyhale Shamrocks are the most successful club in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship with eight titles. Hurling History Beginnings Gaelic Games had been played in the parish of Ballyhale long before the Shamrocks club was established. By the early 1970s there were two competing clubs in existence in the parish, Ballyhale and Knocktopher, however, they were both facing extinction. A third club, Knockmoylan, had ceased to exist at some time in 1959. Because of the situation facing both clubs they decided to amalgamate in 1972 under the new name of Ballyhale Shamrocks.
