Ray Heffernan (hurler)
Raymond Heffernan (born 26 January 1963) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Glenmore and was also a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lined out at midfield or as a forward. Career Heffernan first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Glenmore club before eventually joining the club's top adult team. After junior and intermediate successes, he went on to win a total of five County Senior Championship titles and was team captain for the All-Ireland Club Championship success in 1991. Heffernan first appeared on the inter-county scene as part of the Kilkenny team that won the All-Ireland Minor Championship title in 1981, before later winning an All-Ireland Under-21 Championship title in 1984. His underage and club successes saw him drafted onto the Kilkenny senior hurling team alongside his brother Christy in 1984. Glenmore GAA
Glenmore is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the south of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1888 and has achieved hurling success at county, provincial and national level. Glenmore has also provided the Kilkenny intercounty team with several top players. History Glenmore first distinguished itself in Kilkenny on the football field, and it was only in the 1940s that hurling started to take over. Early success came in 1953, when the hurlers won the County Junior Championship. By the 1960s, Glenmore were among the top sides in the county, narrowly losing out to Bennettsbridge in the 1960 and 1964 county finals. Things soon took a turn for the worse, however, when the club was relegated to Junior status in 1967. They reached the final at that grade in 1968, but lost out to Johnstown. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. The 1999 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 105th staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board. The draw for the opening round fixtures took place on 12 July 1999. The championship began on 21 August 1999 and ended on 24 October 1999. Graigue-Ballycallan were the defending champions. On 24 October 1999, Glenmore won the title after a 1–14 to 2–08 defeat of Graigue-Ballycallan in the final at Nowlan Park. The Leinster Senior Club Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the AIB Leinster GAA Hurling Senior Club Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the champion senior clubs in the province of Leinster in Ireland. The Leinster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 championship.
