2001 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship
The 2001 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship (known at that time as 2001 European Championship for Cadets) was the 16th edition of the FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship. The city of Riga, in Latvia, hosted the tournament. Yugoslavia won the trophy for third time in a row. Teams * * * * * * * * * * * * Qualification There were two qualifying rounds for this tournament. Twenty-four national teams entered the qualifying round. Fifteen teams advanced to the Challenge Round, where they joined Turkey, Macedonia and France. The remaining eighteen teams were allocated in three groups of six teams each. The three top teams of each group joined Yugoslavia (title holder), Greece (runner-up) and Latvia (host) in the final tournament. FIBA U16 European Championship
The FIBA U16 European Championship, previously known as the FIBA Europe Championship for Cadets, is a youth basketball competition that was inaugurated with the 1971 edition. Through the 2003 edition, it was held every second year, but since the 2004 edition onward, it is held every year. It serves as the qualification tournament for the FIBA Under-17 World Cup in odd years, for the FIBA Europe region. The current champions are Lithuania. Luka Bogdanović ( sr, Лука Богдановић, born February 11, 1985) is a Serbian former professional basketball player who last played for Joventut Badalona of the Liga ACB. Milovan Raković (Serbian Cyrillic: Милован Раковић; born 19 February 1985) is a Serbian former professional basketball player. He is a 2.08 m tall center. Professional career Raković played in youth categories of KK Partizan. He made his senior debut with Polet Keramika in the 2003–04 season. Kosta Perović ( sr-cyr, Коста Перовић; born February 19, 1985) is a Serbian former professional basketball player. He represented the Serbian national basketball team internationally. Srđan Živković ( sr-cyr, Срђан Живковић; born 14 March 1986) is a Serbian former professional basketball player. Professional career Until 22 February 2019, Živković was the record-holder for being the youngest player to have appeared in a EuroLeague game.
