Premier A Slovenian Basketball League
The Premier A Slovenian Basketball League ( sl, 1. slovenska košarkarska liga), abbreviated as 1. SKL and known as the Liga Nova KBM due to sponsorship reasons, is the top-level professional men's basketball league in Slovenia. The league, operated by the Basketball Federation of Slovenia, consists of eleven clubs. The most successful team is Cedevita Olimpija with 19 titles. History The league was founded in 1991, shortly after Slovenia's independence from SFR Yugoslavia. Before the independence, the Slovenian Republic League was played as a second or third level of Yugoslav basketball. Olimpija, Ljubljana, Slovan, ŽKK Maribor, Lesonit, and Branik Maribor were the only Slovenian teams that played in the Yugoslav First Federal League. KK Zlatorog Laško
Košarkarski klub Zlatorog Laško ( en, Zlatorog Laško Basketball Club), commonly referred to as KK Zlatorog or simply Zlatorog, is a Slovenian professional basketball club based in Laško. Zlatorog play their home games at the Tri Lilije Hall. History The club was established in 1969. During the initial years the club was competing under the name ''KK Laško''. In 1972 they renamed as ''KK Zlatorog Laško'', and in 1994 as ''KK Pivovarna Laško''. A year before that, the town of Laško started the construction of a new modern sports hall which prompted rapid expansion of basketball in the town. The management also renewed the playing potential of the club, and in the 1995–96 season, after two years of competing in the 1B Division, the club qualified for the Slovenian top division. The Helios Suns are a men's professional basketball club based in Domžale, Slovenia. The club competes in the Slovenian First League and the ABA League Second Division. KD Slovan
Košarkarsko društvo Slovan, commonly referred to as KD Slovan or simply Slovan, is a basketball team from Ljubljana, Slovenia. History The origins of the club are dating back to 1951, when Stane Urek suggested a formation of a basketball club in Poljane (KK Poljane), at one of Ljubljana's high schools. The club got its official permission to play on 13 April in the same year. After just two days, they organised their first tournament, at which they invited Rudar Trbovlje and Krka, both playing in the first national league. The team was also named KK Krim, KK Slavija, KK Odred, and finally KD Slovan – the name they have had until today. After having played for more than 20 years on the basketball court at Poljane Grammar School, they moved to Kodeljevo Hall in the 1974–75 season, where they have been playing ever since.
