2000–01 Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2000–01 Mid-American Conference men's basketball season began with practices in October 2000, followed by the start of the 2000–01 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November. Conference play began in January 2001 and concluded in March 2001. Central Michigan won the regular season title with a conference record of 14–4 by one game over second-place Kent State. Kent State defeated Miami in the MAC tournament final and represented the MAC in the NCAA tournament. There they defeated Indiana before losing to Cincinnati. Leon Rodgers (born June 19, 1980) is an American-born Venezuelan retired basketball player. Standing at , he played as small forward. Over his career, Rodgers played in the Netherlands, China, France, Germany, Puerto Rico, Philippines and Colombia. He was nicknamed "La Moto" during his time in Venezuela. Brandon Hunter (November 24, 1980 – September 12, 2023) was an American professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). After a college basketball career with the Ohio Bobcats, leading the NCAA in rebounding in 2002–03, he was selected by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2003 NBA draft. Jay Steven Smith (born June 21, 1961) is an American college basketball coach. He currently serves in an administrative role for the men's basketball team at the University of Michigan. He was a former head coach at Grand Valley State University (1996–97) and Central Michigan University (1997–2006). Theron (tee-ron) Augustus Smith (born October 3, 1980) is an American former professional basketball player of the National Basketball Association and FIBA. Basketball career Born in Winter Haven, Florida, Smith played collegiately for Ball State University. Tamar Ulysses Slay (born April 2, 1980) is an American basketball former college and professional player. A 6 ft 9 in (2.03 m) guard-forward, he was formerly with the National Basketball Association's New Jersey Nets and Charlotte Bobcats. He played college basketball at Marshall University.
