2000–01 FC Basel Season
The 2000–01 Fussball Club Basel 1893 season was their 107th season since the club's foundation on 15 November 1893. Following their promotion in the 1993–94 season this was their seventh consecutive season in the highest tier of Swiss football. René C. Jäggi was the club's chairman for the fifth year. FC Basel played their home games in the alternate Stadion Schützenmatte while the new stadium was being built and as of 15 March 2001 in the brand new St. Jakob-Park. Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Basel have competed in European competitions every season since 1999–2000. Pascal Zuberbühler
Pascal Zuberbühler (born 8 January 1971) is a Swiss former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He played in the Swiss Super League for Grasshopper, Basel and Neuchâtel Xamax. He also had a season on loan to Bayer Leverkusen of the Bundesliga, and late in his career he represented West Bromwich Albion and Fulham in England. Zuberbühler earned 51 caps for Switzerland between 1994 and 2008, and was selected for UEFA Euro 2004, the 2006 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2008. FC Wil (''Fussball Club Wil 1900'') is a football club based in Wil, Switzerland. They play in the ''Sportpark Bergholz'', which has a total capacity of 6,048. BSC Young Boys (YB by short abbreviation ) are a Swiss sports club based in Bern, Switzerland. Its first team has won 15 Swiss league championships and six Swiss Cups. Thomas Häberli (born 11 April 1974) is a Swiss professional footballer manager and former player who played as a striker. He is currently the manager of the Estonia national team. Club history Born in Lucerne, Switzerland, Häberli began his career with the semi-professional club FC Eschenbach, based in Eschenbach, Lucerne just outside his hometown of Lucerne in Central Switzerland. In 1994, he moved to FC Le Mont, based in Le Mont-sur-Lausanne, in the French-speaking region of Switzerland. Didier Tholot (born 2 April 1964) is a French former professional footballer who turned to management in 2002, and is currently manager of Pau FC. Whilst at Bordeaux he played in the 1996 UEFA Cup Final. Playing career Tholot was born in Feurs, Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. After completing his training at INF Vichy in 1984, Tholot signed his first professional contract with Sporting Club Toulon in the first division where he learned the ropes during three years. He was then transferred to Chamois Niortais F.C. where he played for two seasons. In 1990 he was recruited by Stade de Reims. In spite of the club's financial difficulties eventually leading to relegation at the end of the season, Tholot scored 14 goals in 34 competitive matches. Neuchâtel Xamax Football Club Serrières or Neuchâtel Xamax FCS () is a Swiss football club based in Neuchâtel. It was created in 1970 through a merger between FC Cantonal, founded in 1906 and Swiss champions of 1916, and FC Xamax founded in 1912. Luís Calapes
Luis Manuel Duarte Calapes (born 3 June 1978) is a Portuguese former footballer who played as defender in the 1990s and 2000s. Calapes played his youth football with FC Basel and from their reserve team, he advanced to the first team for their 1997–98 season. After playing in three test games Calapes played his domestic league debut for the club in the away game on 29 March 1998 as Basel played a goalless drew with Lugano. In the following season Calapes became more playing time under head-coach Guy Mathez. But things changed under new coach Christian Gross, in their 1999–2000 season Calapes played only seven league games. The following season Calapes was loaned for six months to Xamax and the second half of the season to SR Delémont, who played one tier lower. Servette FC is a Swiss football club based in Geneva, founded in March 1890 with rugby as its first sporting activity, and named after the Geneva district of the same name.
