2000 Rio 200
The 2000 Rio 200 was a Champ Car, Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) auto race held at the trapezoid-shaped Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet, Autódromo de Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on April 30, 2000. It was the third race of the 2000 CART season, the fifth (and last) running of the Rio 200, event, and the first round of the year to be held outside of the United States. The 108-lap race was won by Patrick Racing driver Adrián Fernández after he started from sixteenth. Jimmy Vasser of Chip Ganassi Racing finished second with Andretti Autosport, Team Green's Paul Tracy third. Tagliani set the fastest overall lap time in qualifying to start the race from pole position. He led for a total of 76 laps, more than any driver. The Rio 200 (initially Rio 400) was a Champ Car, CART Champ Car event held at Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet, in Rio de Janeiro. The race was contested on the trapezoid oval track, speedway at the facility known as Emerson Fittipaldi, Emerson Fittipaldi Speedway. The race was held from 1996 CART World Series season, 1996 to 2000 CART season, 2000. The first three events were run over 400 kilometers; the final two were 200 miles. This event was the only South American race sanctioned by Champ Car, CART. Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet
The Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet (Nelson Piquet International RaceTrack), also known as Jacarepaguá after the neighbourhood in which it was located, and also as the Autódromo Riocentro, was a motorsport circuit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Opened in January 1978, a few weeks before 1978 Brazilian Grand Prix, it hosted the Formula One Brazilian Grand Prix on ten occasions, and was also used for CART, motorcycle racing and stock car racing. In 2012, it was demolished to make way for facilities to be used at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
