2000 Ontario Nokia Cup
The 2000 Nokia Cup, southern Ontario men's provincial curling championship was held February 7-13 at the Steve Yzerman Arena at the Nepean Sportsplex in Nepean, Ontario. The winning rink of Peter Corner, Todd Brandwood, Drew Macklin and Dwayne Pyper from Hamilton would go on to represent Ontario at the 2000 Labatt Brier in Saskatoon. In the final, Peter Corner and his Hamilton rink defeated his cousin and former teammate, Wayne Middaugh's Toronto rink, 6–4. The game began on a bad note for Middaugh who was heavy on his draw attempt in the first end, giving up a steal of one to Corner. Middaugh gave up another steal in the eighth end after coming up light on a draw, to go down 5–3. The teams traded singles in the next two ends for a 6 to 4 final score. Nepean, Ontario
Nepean ( ) is a former municipality and now geographic area of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Located west of Ottawa's inner core, it was an independent city until amalgamated with the Regional Municipality of Ottawa–Carleton in 2001 to become the new city of Ottawa. However, the name Nepean continues in common usage in reference to the area. The population of Nepean is about 186,593 people (2021 Census). Bryan Cochrane
Bryan Cochrane (born October 9, 1957 in Winchester, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Russell, Ontario. Cochrane is most notable for winning the 2019 World Senior Curling Championships for Canada, and skipping team Ontario at the 2003 Nokia Brier and later team PEI at the 2020 Tim Hortons Brier. Curling career After repeatedly making it to provincial championships, and failing to win, finally Cochrane in 2003 became only the fourth Ottawa-based team to play in the Brier. Cochrane, playing out of the RCMP Curling Club at the time, and his team of Bill Gamble, Ian MacAulay and John Steski defeated Peter Corner in the provincial final. Rideau Curling Club
The Rideau Curling Club is a curling facility and organization located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 1888, the Rideau Curling Club maintains a rivalry with the Ottawa Curling Club. History The original club began operation in November, 1888 as the Rideau Skating and Curling Club. The first facility of the club was the Rideau Skating Rink located on Waller Street, which opened in February 1889. The club's original president was Sandford Fleming, Sir Sandford Fleming, and Governor General Frederick Arthur Stanley, 16th Earl of Derby, Lord Stanley as patron. Morgan Currie
Morgan Currie (born May 20, 1964 in Summerside, Prince Edward Island) is a Canadian curler from Ottawa, Ontario. In 1997, Currie won the Ontario Mixed Curling Championship throwing second on a team skipped by Jim Hunker. The team finished with a 2–9 record at the 1997 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Currie joined the Bryan Cochrane senior men's team for the 2017–18 curling season at second. The team won the 2018 Ontario Senior Men's Curling Championship and represented Ontario at the 2018 Canadian Senior Curling Championships. Richard Hart (curler)
Richard Hart (born October 14, 1968) is a Canadian curler from Pickering, Ontario. He is a Brier and world champion, as well as an Olympic silver medallist. He currently coaches the Mike McEwen rink. Career Hart attended his first Brier in 1995 as an alternate for Ed Werenich. It was his only major tournament experience before winning the 1997 Canadian Olympic trials as the third for the Mike Harris team. At the 1998 Winter Olympics, the team won a silver medal. He left the team in 2000, and joined up with Glenn Howard. Eventually with Howard, Hart would go to another Brier, in 2006 where they lost in the final. The following year, they won the 2007 Tim Hortons Brier and then the 2007 Ford World Men's Curling Championship. As vice with Glenn Howard he placed 2nd in the Olympic trials in Edmonton in 2009 and is a runner up for the past 3 Briers.
