Clarington
Clarington (2021 population 101,427) is a lower-tier municipality in the Regional Municipality of Durham in Ontario, Canada. It was incorporated in 1973 as the town of Newcastle with the merging of the town of Bowmanville, the Village of Newcastle and the townships of Clarke and Darlington, and was established on January 1 1974. In 1993, the town was renamed Clarington, a portmanteau of the names of the two former townships. Bowmanville is the largest community in the municipality and is the home of the municipal offices. Clarington is part of the Oshawa census metropolitan area in the eastern end of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Major employers in Clarington include the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, General Motors Canada, and several medium to large-sized manufacturing businesses. 2000 Kawartha Lakes Municipal Election
The 2000 Kawartha Lakes municipal election was held on November 13, 2000, to elect a mayor, councillors, and school trustees in the city of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario, Canada. Results *Lloyd Ashmore (died September 30, 2004) was a beef farmer and veteran municipal politician in central Ontario. He was first elected as one of four councillors in Emily Township, Ontario in the early 1950s, receiving 331 votes and earning ninety-two dollars for his first year of public service. He served in municipal politics on and off until his death, and was at different times Emily's reeve and deputy reeve. He supported the community's amalgamation into Kawartha Lakes in 2000. The 2000 election was his last campaign; he did not seek re-election in 2003. Ashmore was known for his gentle demeanour and his encyclopedic knowledge of local politics. The City of Kawartha Lakes (2021 population 79,247) is a unitary municipality in Central Ontario, Canada. It is a municipality legally structured as a single-tier city; however, Kawartha Lakes is the size of a typical Ontario county and is mostly rural. 2000 Hamilton, Ontario, Municipal Election
The 2000 Hamilton municipal election was a municipal election held on November 13, 2000, to elect municipal officials for the City of Hamilton. On election day, Hamiltonians elected a mayor, 15 city councillors, and trustees for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire Viamonde, and Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir. This was the first election of the "New" City of Hamilton after the dissolution of the Region of Hamilton-Wentworth and the amalgamation of Dundas, Stoney Creek, Flamborough, Ancaster, Glanbrook, and Waterdown with the existing city of Hamilton. The amalgamation dissolved the independent councils of each suburban municipality and reduced the number of councillors elected in each ward from two to one. Hamilton is a port city in the Canadian province of Ontario. Karen J. Farbridge is a Canadian politician, the former Mayor and a former City Councillor of the city of Guelph, Ontario. Personal life Farbridge was born in Woking, England the oldest of three siblings. When she was three years old she moved to Canada with her family for her father's work. Her father, Joseph Farbridge, was an aeronautical engineer who moved to Canada to work with de Havilland Aircraft of Canada Ltd. Guelph ( ; 2021 Canadian Census population 143,740) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. The Greater Sudbury municipal election, 2000 was held in the city of Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on November 13, 2000. All municipal elections in the province of Ontario are held on the same date.
