2000 Davis Cup
The 2000 Davis Cup (also known as the 2000 Davis Cup by NEC for sponsorship purposes) was the 89th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 135 teams entered the competition, 16 in the World Group, 30 in the Americas Zone, 31 in the Asia/Oceania Zone, and 58 in the Europe/Africa Zone. Andorra, Lesotho, Mauritius and Namibia made their first appearances in the tournament. Spain defeated Australia in the final, held at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain, on 8–10 December, to win their first title. Nicolas Escudé
Nicolas Jean-Christophe Escudé (born 3 April 1976) is a former professional tennis player from France, who turned professional in 1995. He won four singles titles and two doubles titles during his career. Escudé is best remembered for the vital role he played in the 2001 Davis Cup final against Australia on the grass-courts of Melbourne. Escudé beat the recently crowned World No. 1, Lleyton Hewitt in the first rubber with a win in five sets, repeating what he did to Hewitt earlier that year in the fourth round of Wimbledon. Two days later, Escudé won the decisive fifth rubber for France against Wayne Arthurs in four sets. Arvind Parmar (born 1978 in Hitchin, Hertfordshire) is a former British professional tennis player whose career ran from 1997 to 2006. After retiring, he coached British junior No. 1, Ahmed El Menshawy. and also coached another British junior, James Marsalek. Tim Henman
Timothy Henry Henman (born 6 September 1974) is a British former professional tennis player. Henman played a serve-and-volley style of tennis. He was the first British man to reach the singles semifinals of Wimbledon since Roger Taylor in the 1970s. Gregory Rusedski (born 6 September 1973) is a British and Canadian former tennis player. Thomas Strengberger (born 5 October 1975) is a former professional tennis player from Austria. Career A doubles specialist, Strengberger had the best performance of his career at the 1997 Austrian Open, where he and partner Thomas Buchmayer were surprise finalists, having entered the tournament as wildcards. Julian Knowle (born 29 April 1974) is an Austrian former male professional tennis player. Being a born left-hander, Knowle was one of the few on the ATP Tour who played his forehand, backhand, and even volleys double-handed. He was Austria's most successful doubles player in history by reaching world no. 6 in the ATP doubles rankings in January 2008, before being matched by Jürgen Melzer, who reached no. 6 in September 2010, and overtaken by Alexander Peya, who reached no. 3 in August 2013.
