2000 Czech Regional Elections
Regional elections were held in the Czech Republic to elect the Regional Councils of 13 regions (all except Prague) on 12 November 2000. Voter turnout was only 33.6%. The elections were won by the Civic Democratic Party, with Four-Coalition coming second and the ruling Czech Social Democratic Party in fourth. Civic Democratic Party (Czech Republic)
The Civic Democratic Party ( cs, Občanská demokratická strana, ODS) is a liberal-conservative and soft eurosceptic political party in the Czech Republic. It holds 34 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, and is the second strongest party by number of seats following the 2021 election. It is the only political party in the Czech Republic that has always been represented in the Chamber of Deputies. Founded in 1991 as the pro-free market wing of the Civic Forum by Václav Klaus and modeled on the British Conservative Party, the ODS won the 1992 legislative election, and has remained in government for most of the Czech Republic's independence. In every legislative election (except for that of 2013) it emerged as one of the two strongest parties. Party For The Open Society
The Party for the Open Society ( cs, Strana pro otevřenou společnost, SOS) is a minor social liberal political party in the Czech Republic. The party origins were in the Civic Movement ( cs, Občanské Hnutí), a liberal group founded in 1991 within Civic Forum. In 1993 the party was renamed the Free Democrats ( cs, Svobodní Demokraté). After poor results in local elections in 1994, the party merged with the Liberal National Social Party (LSNS) to become the Free Democrats-Liberal National Social Party ( cs, Svobodní Demokraté - Liberální strana národně sociální). The merged party again returned poor results in parliamentary elections in 1996, and amid political disagreements over the nationalist views of ex-members of the LSNS, many Free Democrats left the party in 1997, forming the Party for the Open Society in 1998, with 120-150 members. The SNK Union of Independents (Czech language, Czech official title: ''SNK sdružení nezávislých''), or SNK (from the earlier title ''Sdružení nezávislých kandidátů'' - Association of Independent Candidates), was a small (rather conservative and liberal) political party (registered as a ''movement'' - ''hnutí'' by the Czech legislative) in Czech Republic, led since May 2007 by Helmut Dohnálek. The Czech Social Democratic Party ( cs, Česká strana sociálně demokratická, ČSSD, ) is a social-democratic political party in the Czech Republic. Sitting on the centre-left of the political spectrum and holding pro-European views, it is a member of the Party of European Socialists, the Socialist International, and the Progressive Alliance. Masaryk Democratic Academy is the party-affiliated's think tank. The ČSSD was a junior coalition party within Andrej Babiš' Second Cabinet's minority government from June 2018, and was a senior coalition party from 1998 to 2006 and from 2013 to 2017.
