1999 NEBL Promotion Cup
NEBL Promotion Cup 1999 was the first test run tournament of the North European Basketball League. The tournament was held during the 1998-99 basketball season on 23 January – 5 April 1999. The tournament included 8 teams from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Sweden and Finland. BC Žalgiris won the tournament by defeating ASK/Brocēni/LMT in the final. BC Lietuvos rytas finished in third place by defeating Plannja Basket. The Prize fund for the Final Four competitions equaled $100,000. The winner of the NEBL Promotion Cup was awarded with $45,000 cheque, the other finalist received $25,000, 3rd-place winner - $20,000 and 4th best team got $10,000. 2000 North European Basketball League
NEBL'2000 was the first complete season of the North European Basketball League. The tournament was held during the 1999-2000 basketball season on 5 January – 16 April 2000. After holding Promotion Cup, teams from four more countries – Germany, Russia, Ukraine and Denmark – took part in NEBL'2000. League accepted the participation of Magic M7 from Sweden, with which Earvin "Magic" Johnson entered into an agreement. CSKA won the tournament by defeating Lietuvos rytas in the final. Torpan Pojat
Torpan Pojat, shortened to ToPo, is a basketball club based in Helsinki, Finland. Torpan Pojat has their men's and women's team playing in national 1st division and many minor and junior teams in different age categories. History The club was formed in 1932 as a sports club for a school in the neighbourhood of Munkkiniemi in Helsinki. Their men's team played for the first time in the predecessor of Korisliiga in 1956 and continued to play a total of 51 seasons in Korisliiga and seven seasons in lower divisions between 1956 and their dissolution in 2013. The women's team played in the highest tier for the first time in 1962, but never managed to establish itself in the league. Torpan Pojat also played in international competitions. Vilnius Palace Of Concerts And Sports
Vilnius Palace of Concerts and Sports ( lt, Sporto rūmai) is an indoor arena in Vilnius, Lithuania. The venue was opened in 1971. It was deemed unsafe and closed in 2004. Plans to reconstruct the venue received significant opposition from the Jewish community as the site is located on the grounds of the oldest Jewish cemetery in Vilnius. The arena was capable of holding 4,400 spectators. It was primarily used for volleyball and basketball. In October 1988, the arena was the site of the Inaugural Congress of Sąjūdis, the Reform movement which led Lithuania in achieving independence from the Soviet Union. It was also the site of the public funeral of 13 Lithuanians killed by Soviet troops at the Vilnius Television Tower during the January Events of 1991. The arena is emblematic of Communist Modernism. Ramūnas Šiškauskas (, born September 10, 1978) is a former Lithuanian professional basketball player and basketball coach. At a listed height of 6'6" (1.98 m) tall, he could play at both the shooting guard and small forward positions. His individual accolades as a player include a EuroLeague MVP award, four All-EuroLeague Team selections, as well as an All-EuroBasket Team designation. On May 16, 2014, Šiškauskas was named a EuroLeague Basketball Legend. During his playing career, Šiškauskas won two EuroLeague titles, one each with Panathinaikos Athens and CSKA Moscow, in 2007 and 2008, and reached two more EuroLeague Finals with CSKA, in 2009 and 2012. Andrius Giedraitis (born July 23, 1973) is a Lithuanian former professional basketball player and coach. Professional career Giedraitis started his career in the LPA Vilnius team, and he later moved to BC Sakalai. In 1998, he became a member of BC Lietuvos Rytas. He was one of the leaders of that team. In 2001, he moved to Telindus Oostende. During the 2002–03 season, he played with Śląsk Wrocław, where he became one of the team's leaders (avergaing 11.6 points per game). In 2003, he signed a contract with BC Lietuvos Rytas, however, due to an injury, he did not play. In 2004, he moved to BSG Basket Ludwigsburg, where he also immediately became one of the team's leaders. In 2005, he played with BC Dynamo Moscow Region. Tyus Dwayne Edney Sr. (born February 14, 1973) is an American basketball coach and former player who is an assistant coach for the San Diego Toreros men's team of the West Coast Conference (WCC). Listed at , he played point guard. He played college basketball for the UCLA Bruins from 1991 to 1995, leading them to the 1995 NCAA national championship. His game-winning shot for UCLA, in the second round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament, is considered to be one of the most famous plays in NCAA Tournament history. Eurelijus Žukauskas (, born August 22, 1973) is a retired Lithuanian professional basketball player. At a height of 2.18 m (7'2") tall, and a weight of 118 kg (260 lbs.), he played at the center position. Professional career In the 1995 NBA Draft, Žukauskas was selected with the #54 draft pick by the Seattle SuperSonics, in the second round of the draft. On June 28, 1995, the Milwaukee Bucks acquired his rights from Seattle. In 2007, he signed a one-year contract with the Lithuanian club Žalgiris Kaunas, which he later renewed for another year. Tomas Masiulis (born September 19, 1975) is a retired Lithuanian professional basketball player and coach. During his playing career, at a height of 2.05 m (6'8 ") tall, he played at the power forward position. During his coaching career, he was the head coach of Žalgiris-2. Svenska Basketligan, or the Swedish Basketball League (SBL), is the premier league for professional basketball in Sweden. The league was originally established in 1992 as Basketligan and was known as that prior to the season of 2006–07, but when the Swedish company Obol Investment signed an agreement with the Swedish Basketball Federation in early October 2006, the league was renamed Obol Basketball League (OBL). In January 2007 the name was changed to Ligan, meaning simply the League. History On October 6, 2006, the Swedish Basketball Federation signed a 15-year agreement with Swiss company Obol Investment. Lietuvos krepšinio lyga (LKL) (''English'': Lithuanian Basketball League), also known as Betsafe LKL for sponsorship reasons, is the premier professional men's club basketball league in Lithuania.
