The 1999 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final was the 112th All-Ireland Final and the deciding match of the 1999 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, an inter-county Gaelic football tournament for the top teams in Ireland. Meath captained by Graham Geraghty defeated Cork to claim the last All-Ireland football final of the Millennium. Pre-match Meath had "unquestionably" played more key games at Croke Park in the 1990s than any other Leinster county. Cork's Seán Óg Ó hAilpín went into the match aiming to emulate Teddy McCarthy's achievement of winning two senior All-Ireland championship medals in the same season. The 1999 Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 113th edition of the GAA's premier Gaelic football competition. The championship began on 9 May 1999 and ended on 26 September 1999. Galway entered the championship as defending champions; however, they were beaten by Mayo in the Connacht final. On 26 September 1999, Meath beat Cork by 1-11 to 1-8 in the All-Ireland final, thus winning their second All-Ireland title in four years and their seventh in all. In the process, they denied Cork the Double, the hurlers having claimed the Liam MacCarthy Cup two weeks previously. Teddy McCarthy
Thaddeus "Teddy" McCarthy (born 1 July 1965) is an Irish former hurler and Gaelic footballer who played as a midfielder at senior level for the Cork county football and hurling teams. In an eleven-year senior inter-county playing career, McCarthy played for the Cork senior hurling and football teams, winning major honours with both. He is the only dual player to win All-Ireland senior hurling and football medals in a single year. McCarthy joined the Cork senior football team in 1985. Between then and 1996 he won two All-Ireland medals, six Munster medals and one All-Star. McCarthy's ten-year career with the Cork senior hurlers saw him win two All-Ireland medals, three Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. At club level McCarthy played for Sarsfields and Glanmire. In retirement from playing McCarthy moved into coaching and team management. Cormac Murphy (born 21 April 1993) is an Irish hurler who plays for Cork Premier Championship club Mallow and at inter-county level with the Cork senior hurling team. He currently plays as a right wing-forward, but can also be deployed as a wing-back. Playing career University College Cork During his studies at University College Cork, Murphy was selected for the college's senior hurling team on a number of occasions. On 2 March 2013, he was an unused substitute when the university defeated Mary Immaculate College by 2-17 to 2-12 to win the Fitzgibbon Cup. The Down County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae An Dún) or Down GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Down, Northern Ireland.
