1993 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final
The 1993 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final was the 106th All-Ireland Final and the deciding match of the 1993 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. The match was played in Croke Park in Dublin on 19 September 1993. Ulster champions Derry took on Munster champions Cork, in what was their first ever meeting in a final. Cork's last title had come in 1990, while Derry had never won the competition, and last contested a final in 1958. Derry won the match by 1–14 to 2–8 to win the Sam Maguire Cup for the first time. 1993 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 1993 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 107th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 16 May 1993 and ended on 19 September 1993. Donegal entered the championship as the defending champions; however, they were defeated by Derry in the Ulster final played during a deluge in Clones. Derry went on to win the Sam Maguire Cup for the first time, beating Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final and then Cork in the All-Ireland final by 1-14 to 2-8. Tony Davis (Gaelic Footballer)
Anthony Davis (born 29 November 1964), better known as Tony Davis, is an Irish former Gaelic football coach, retired player and former sports broadcaster. His league and championship career at senior level with the Cork county team spanned ten seasons from 1984 to 1994. Born in Skibbereen, County Cork, Davis first played competitive Gaelic football at St Fachtna's De La Salle College. Here he won a Corn Uí Mhuirí medal in 1982, however, an All-Ireland medal remained elusive. He first appeared for the O'Donovan Rossa club at juvenile and underage levels, before winning a county under-21 championship medal in 1984. Damian Cassidy
Damian Cassidy (born 22 July 1965) is a former Gaelic football manager and former player for the Derry county team in the 1980s and 1990s, who was part of the county's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side, starting at left half forward. He also won two Ulster Senior Championship medals, three National League titles, and a range of under-age inter-county medals with the county. Cassidy played his club football for Bellaghy Wolfe Tones and won five Derry Championships and the 1994 Ulster Senior Club Football Championships with the club. For both club and county he usually played as a forward. Cassidy was also a talented hurler. Since retiring from playing football he has managed a number of teams. He guided home-club Bellaghy to success in the 2005 Derry Championship, and Tyrone club Clonoe O'Rahilly's to the Tyrone Championship in 2008. Damian Barton (born 19 May 1962) is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1980s and 1990s. He has served as manager of Derry senior football team. He was part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side, also winning Ulster Senior Football Championships in 1987 and 1993. He usually played in the half-forward line. Dermot Heaney
Dermot Heaney (born 27 July 1971) is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1990s and early 2000s. He part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side, also winning Ulster Senior Football Championships in 1993 and 1998. He usually played in the half-forward line, although sometimes played in midfield. Heaney played club football with St Malachy's GAC Castledawson. Brian McGilligan
Brian McGilligan (born 19 December 1963) is an Irish former dual player of Gaelic games, who played Gaelic football at senior level for the Derry county team in the 1980s and 1990s, especially the 1993 team. He was part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side and also won two Ulster Championships with the side. For his performances in the 1987 and 1993 Championships he won two All Star awards. In addition to Gaelic football, McGilligan also played hurling for Derry. He played club football for St Canice's GAC Dungiven and hurling for Kevin Lynch's. After being part of the backroom staff for 2007, he was appointed Derry Senior and Under 21 hurling manager for 2008. Anthony Tohill
Anthony Tohill (born 2 August 1971) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1990s and early 2000s. He is a former chief executive of the Mid Ulster District Council. Early life and family Tohill was born in Swatragh, a son of Hugh and Eileen Tohill. He has three brothers and four sisters. His brother, Hugh Martin Tohill, was also on the panel of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland winning team. Gary Coleman (Gaelic Footballer)
Gary Coleman (born 26 June 1972) is a Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1990s and early 2000s. He still plays club football with St Trea's GFC Ballymaguigan. Coleman was part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Championship winning side, as well as the 1993 and 1998 Ulster Championship winning teams. A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Fergal P. McCusker is a Gaelic footballer who played for the Derry county team in the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. He played club football with Watty Graham's GAC Glen until retiring in 2007. Tony "The Tiger" Scullion (born 6 February 1962) is a former dual player of Gaelic games who played Gaelic football and hurling with Derry in the 1980s and 1990s. Kieran McKeever (born 12 March 1968) is a former dual player of Gaelic games who played Gaelic football and hurling for Derry GAA, Derry during the late 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. He is chiefly known as a footballer and was part of Derry's 1993 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winning side, also won Ulster Senior Football Championships in 1993 and 1998.
