1998 Nebelhorn Trophy
The 1998 Nebelhorn Trophy took place between August 25 and 28, 1998 at the Bundesleistungszentrum Oberstdorf. It is an international senior-level figure skating competition organized by the Deutsche Eislauf-Union and held annually in Oberstdorf, Germany. The competition is named after the Nebelhorn, a nearby mountain. Oberstdorf
Oberstdorf ( Low Alemannic: ''Oberschdorf'') is a municipality and skiing and hiking town in Germany, located in the Allgäu region of the Bavarian Alps. Ice dance (sometimes referred to as ice dancing) is a discipline of figure skating that historically draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976. According to the International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of figure skating, an ice dance team consists of one woman and one man. Ice dance, like pairs skating, pair skating, has its roots in the "combined skating" developed in the 19th century by skating clubs and organizations and in recreational social skating. Clive Shorten (born 28 June 1973) is an English former competitive figure skater. He is the 1992 Piruetten bronze medalist, 1994 Czech Skate silver medalist, and 1999 British national champion. He reached the free skate at three ISU Championships as a single skater. Career Single skating Shorten began skating in 1982. He placed 21st at the 1991 World Junior Championships in Budapest, just missing the cut-off for the free skate. At the 1992 World Junior Championships in Hull, Quebec, he qualified for the final segment and finished 19th. Shorten won bronze at the 1992 Piruetten and silver at the 1994 Czech Skate. He was 19th overall at the 1995 World Championships in Birmingham, England, after placing 22nd in the short and 18th in the free. Shorten's first coaches were David Clements and Ludmila Vasilyeva. Silvio Smalun (born 2 November 1979 in Erfurt, Thuringia) is a German former competitive figure skater. He is the 2003 Bofrost Cup on Ice bronze medalist, the 2000 Ondrej Nepela Memorial bronze medalist, and a two-time (2001 and 2003) German national champion. He reached the free skate at seven ISU Championships, achieving his best result, 8th, at the 2006 Europeans. Career Silvio Smalun started skating at the age of 5. His first coach was Ilona Schindler. He trained alongside Stefan Lindemann. In 1995, he moved to Oberstdorf where he was coached by Michael Huth. Due to his studies, he trained also in Ulm without his coach. Emanuel Sandhu (born November 18, 1980) is a Canadian figure skater and dancer. He is the 2004 Grand Prix Final champion and a three-time Canadian national champion. Personal life Sandhu was born on November 18, 1980 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was raised in Richmond Hill, Ontario with his younger brothers Chris and Daniel.
