1998 Macedonian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Macedonia on 18 October 1998, with a second round on 1 November. Macedonian Parliament
The Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia ( mk, Собрание на Република Северна Македонија, sq, Kuvendi i Republikës së Maqedonisë së Veriut), or the Sobranie ( mk, Собрание, "Assembly"), is the unicameral representative body of the citizens of North Macedonia; it is North Macedonia's sole legislature. According to the Constitution, the Sobranie represents the people and is vested with legislative power. It can have between 120 and 140 MPs (currently 120), elected by proportional representation from 6 electoral districts, each contributing 20 MPs, and there are also 3 reserved seats elected from the Macedonian diaspora which are awarded only if the voter turnout was sufficient. Democratic Party Of Macedonia
The Democratic Party ( mk, Демократска партија на Македонија, ''Demokratska Partija na Makedonija'', DPM) was a political party in Macedonia. History The party first contested national elections in 1994, when it ran in the parliamentary elections that year. It received 1.5% of the vote in the first round and 1% in the second. It won a single seat, Dieter Nohlen & Philip Stöver (2010) ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', p1288 taken by Tomislav Stojanovski. The 1998 elections saw it run in an alliance with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The alliance won four seats, all of which were taken by the LDP. The DPM contested the 2002 elections alone, but received just 0.2% of the vote and remained seatless. Elections In North Macedonia
North Macedonia elects on the national level a head of state—the president—and a legislature. The president is elected for a five-year term by the people. The Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia (''Sobranie'') has 120-123 members, elected for a four-year term, by proportional representation. The National Democratic Party (; Nacionalna Demokratska Partija) is a political party of ethnic Albanians in North Macedonia.
