Jean-Paul L'Allier
Jean-Paul L'Allier (August 12, 1938 – January 5, 2016) was a Quebec politician, a two-term Member of the National Assembly of Quebec (MNA) and the 38th mayor of Quebec City. Background L'Allier was born in Hudson, Montérégie in 1938 and received a law degree from the University of Ottawa. He practised law in the Ottawa and Outaouais regions in the 1960s. He worked for the Montreal newspaper Le Devoir in the 1980s. He was a self-proclaimed Liberal, sovereigntist and social democrat. Member of the National Assembly L'Allier became a candidate to the National Assembly of Quebec in the district of Deux-Montagnes after Liberal candidate and mayor Guy Léveillée of Saint-Eustache, Laurentides dropped out of the race in the 1970 election. Verdun (; , ) is a borough (''arrondissement'') of the city of Montreal, Quebec, located in the southwestern part of the island. Long known as a working class neighbourhood, it has experienced significant gentrification and social change in the 21st century. Etymology The borough's name is a shortening of Saverdun, in France, the hometown of its early settler Zacharie Dupuy. It is not derived from the Battle of Verdun in World War I, predating the battle by centuries. Georges Bossé (born November 5, 1943) is a retired politician in the Canadian province of Quebec. He was the mayor of Verdun from 1993 until its amalgamation into the city of Montreal in 2001 and subsequently served as a Montreal city councillor and member of the Montreal executive committee (i.e., the municipal cabinet). Alain Tassé is a politician in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He served on the Montreal city council from 2005 to 2013, initially as a member of the Montreal Island Citizens Union (MICU)/Union Montreal (UM) party and later as an independent. Laurent Dugas is a former politician in the Canadian province of Quebec. He was a Verdun city councillor from 1985 to 2001 and a Montreal city councillor from 2002 to 2004, following Verdun's amalgamation into Montreal. His career in public life ended following a personal scandal.
