1997 Belarusian Premier League
The 1997 Belarusian Premier League was the seventh season of top-tier football in Belarus. It started on April 11 and ended on November 11, 1997. MPKC Mozyr were the defending champions. Team changes from 1996 season Obuvshchik Lida and Vedrich Rechytsa, placed 15th and 16th respectively, relegated to the First League. They were replaced by two newcomers: 1996 First League winners Transmash Mogilev and runners-up Kommunalnik Slonim. Ataka-Aura Minsk shortened their name to Ataka Minsk Overview Dinamo Minsk won their 6th champions title and qualified for the next season's Champions League. Belarusian Premier League
The Belarusian Premier League or the Vyšejšaja Liha or the Vysheyshaya Liga ( be, Вышэйшая ліга, russian: Высшая лига, "Top League") is the top division of professional football in Belarus, and is organized by the Belarusian Football Federation. The number of teams in the competition has varied over the years from as high as 17 (1992–93 season) to as low as 11 (2012). As of 2016, the league included 16 teams. Each team plays every other team twice during the course of the season. At the end of the season, the two teams with the fewest points are automatically relegated to the Belarusian First League, while the third worst team plays a promotion-relegation playoff against the third best team from the second tier. The top two teams from the Belarusian First League automatically win promotion to the Premier League. FC Neman Grodno ( be, ФК Нёман Гродна, ''FK Nyoman Hrodna''; russian: ФК Неман Гродно) is a Belarusian football club from the city of Grodno, named after the Neman River and was founded in 1964. Since 1992, the team has participated in the top league of Belarus. FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk ( be, ФК Шахцёр Салігорск, ''FK Shakhtsyor Salihorsk'') is a Belarusian Premier League football club, playing in the city of Soligorsk (Salihorsk) . History The club was founded in 1961. During Soviet era Shakhtyor Soligorsk was playing in top or second division of the Belarusian SSR league, occasionally dropping to lower tiers (Minsk Oblast league) for a short time. FC Torpedo-Kadino Mogilev
FC Torpedo Mogilev is a Belarusian football club based in Mogilev. History The club was formed in 1959 as Kirovets Mogilev. During 1962–1963, the team played in the Belarusian SSR League, before submerging to regional and city level competitions. In 1979, the club was renamed to Torpedo Mogilev and joined the Belarusian SSR top league once again. They were third in 1979 and won their only championship title in 1982. The team began playing in the Belarusian Premier League in 1992. The first two seasons were most successful when they finished 7th (1992) and 8th (1992–93). After that, Torpedo could not get higher than 11th and mostly were struggling against relegation. In 1996, Torpedo were renamed to Torpedo-Kadino Mogilev. 1997–98 Belarusian Cup
The 1997–98 Belarusian Cup was the seventh season of the annual Belarusian football cup competition. Contrary to the league season, it is conducted in a fall-spring rhythm. It began on 2 August 1997 with the first of five rounds and ended on 26 May 1998 with the final at the Dinamo Stadium in Minsk. FC Belshina Bobruisk were the defending champions, having defeated FC Dinamo-93 Minsk in the 1997 final, but were knocked out in the second round by FC MPKC Mozyr. FC Lokomotiv-96 Vitebsk won the final against FC Dinamo Minsk after extra time to win their first title. Round of 32 The games were played on 2, 3 August and 9 October 1997. 1996 Belarusian First League
1996 Belarusian First League was the sixth season of 2nd level football championship in Belarus. It started in April and ended in November 1996. Team changes from 1995 season Winners of 1995 Belarusian First League ( Naftan-Devon Novopolotsk) were promoted to Belarusian Premier League. They were replaced by the lowest-placed team of 1995 Premier League (FC Bobruisk). Khimvolokno Grodno, who finished 15th, relegated to the Second League, but were disbanded before the start of 1996 season. They were replaced by best teams of 1995 Second League ( Maxim-Orsha and Stroitel Bereza). Stroitel Bereza, who finished only second in their Second League group, were promoted instead of MPKC-2 Minsk (who were ineligible for promotion as a farm club). Belarusian First League
The Belarusian First League is the second tier of professional football in Belarus. It was created in 1992, following the Belarusian independence. History and format The typical format of the league involves 16 clubs playing a double round-robin tournament over 30 matchdays (with the exception of shortened 1992 and 1995 seasons, which were a single round-robin tournaments). On several occasions the number of participating teams was smaller (15 or 14), due to last minute withdrawals and no teams available for replacement. FC Vedrich
FC Rechitsa-2014 () was a Belarusian football club based in Rechytsa. History The club was founded in 1952 as Krasnaya Zvezda Rechitsa (''Red Star'') and spent Soviet years playing in the Belarusian SSR league or in lower regional leagues. In 1960, they became Dneprovets Rechitsa, then Dnepr Rechitsa in 1962. In 1977, they were renamed to Neftyanik Rechitsa (''Oiler'') and in 1980 to Sputnik Rechitsa (''Satellite''). In 1991, Sputnik won the Belarusian SSR First League (2nd level). In 1992, the club was renamed to Vedrich Rechitsa and included to newly created Belarusian Premier League. They played there until 1996, when they finished last and relegated.
