1997–98 Belarusian Cup
The 1997–98 Belarusian Cup was the seventh season of the annual Belarusian football cup competition. Contrary to the league season, it is conducted in a fall-spring rhythm. It began on 2 August 1997 with the first of five rounds and ended on 26 May 1998 with the final at the Dinamo Stadium in Minsk. FC Belshina Bobruisk were the defending champions, having defeated FC Dinamo-93 Minsk in the 1997 final, but were knocked out in the second round by FC MPKC Mozyr. FC Lokomotiv-96 Vitebsk won the final against FC Dinamo Minsk after extra time to win their first title. Round of 32 The games were played on 2, 3 August and 9 October 1997. FC Vitebsk ( be, ФК Віцебск, FK Viciebsk, russian: ФК Витебск) is a Belarusian football club based in Vitebsk. The club plays in the Belarusian Premier League, the top division in Belarusian football. Their home stadium is Vitebsky Central Sport Complex. History The club was founded in 1960 as Krasnoye Znamya Vitebsk (''Red Flag Vitebsk''). They began playing in Soviet Class B (second-tier league) the same year. After three seasons, they relegated to the third tier. Vitebsk team would spend almost all of their subsequent Soviet-era seasons playing at the third level (Soviet Second League), with the exception of 1970 and 1990, when the team dropped to 4th level. FC Lokomotiv Vitebsk is a defunct Belarusian football club from Vitebsk. History The club was formed in 1986 as ''SKB Vitebsk''. During Soviet years the club played in Belarusian SSR league. In 1992 they were renamed to ''SKB-Lokomotiv Vitebsk'' and joined newly created Belarusian Premier League. In the summer of the same year, they updated the name to ''Lokomotiv Vitebsk''. Penalty Shootout (association Football)
A penalty shoot-out (officially kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method in association football to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as extra time (if used) have expired. In a penalty shoot-out, each team takes turns shooting at goal from the penalty mark, with the goal defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Each team has five shots which must be taken by different kickers; the team that makes more successful kicks is declared the victor. Shoot-outs finish as soon as one team has an insurmountable lead. If scores are level after five pairs of shots, the shootout progresses into additional " sudden-death" rounds. Balls successfully kicked into the goal during a shoot-out do not count as goals for the individual kickers or the team, and are tallied separately from the goals scored during normal play (including extra time, if any). FC Osipovichi ( be, ФК Асіповічы, russian: ФК Осиповичи) is a Belarusian football club based in Osipovichi, Mogilev Oblast. History FC Osipovichi was founded in 1994 as KRZ Osipovichi and started playing in the Belarusian Second League since the 1994–95 season. In 1997, they changed their name to FC Svisloch-Krovlya Osipovichi and won the Second league, receiving promotion to the First League. FC Kommunalnik Slonim was a Belarusian football club based in Slonim, Grodno Oblast. History The team was founded in 1969. FC Rechitsa-2014 () was a Belarusian football club based in Rechytsa. History The club was founded in 1952 as Krasnaya Zvezda Rechitsa (''Red Star'') and spent Soviet years playing in the Belarusian SSR league or in lower regional leagues. In 1960, they became Dneprovets Rechitsa, then Dnepr Rechitsa in 1962. In 1977, they were renamed to Neftyanik Rechitsa (''Oiler'') and in 1980 to Sputnik Rechitsa (''Satellite'').
