1993 United States Interregional Soccer League
The 1993 United States Interregional Soccer League was an American outdoor soccer season run by the United States Interregional Soccer League. Southern Challenge Cup In 1993, the league introduced the Southern Challenge Cup, a short season for teams which the league was considering for membership. The cup would allow these provisional teams to test their organization before beginning a season long competitive schedule. During the cup, the four provisional teams also played games against other teams in the league. These games counted both in the USISL and Southern Challenge Cup standings. The cup was capped by a final between the two top teams in which the Riverboat Gamblers defeated the Grasshoppers. Final Regular season Scoring The standings published by the USISL list only the wins, losses, goals scored, goals allowed and total points. United States Interregional Soccer League
United Soccer League (USL), formerly known as United Soccer Leagues, is a soccer league in the United States and Canada. It organizes several men's and women's leagues, both professional and amateur. Men's leagues currently organized are the USL Championship, USL League One, USL League Two, and the youth Super Y League. A new women's league, the USL W League, began play in 2022. It is directly affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation and the United States Adult Soccer Association. The USL is headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Memphis Storm
The Memphis Storm was an American soccer team based in Memphis, Tennessee which existed from 1986 to 1994. They underwent several names changes including the Rogues, the Survivors, the United Express and finally the Jackals. They played in the American Indoor Soccer Association, and the Sunbelt Independent Soccer League, which later came to be known as the United States Interregional Soccer League. El Paso Patriots
El Paso Patriots was an American soccer team based in El Paso, Texas, United States. Founded in 1989, the team played in the Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Mid South Division of the Southern Conference. The team played its home games at the soccer-specific Patriot Stadium, where they played since 2005 until 2012, when they played their last season (2013) home schedule at the SAC. The team's colors were red, navy blue and white. Dallas Lightning
The Dallas Lightning were a U.S. soccer club that competed in the USISL from 1993 to 1996 and the USISL W-League from 1995 to 1997. The men's team folded after the 1995–96 USISL indoor season and the women's team folded after the 1997 USISL W-League season. Based in Tyler, Texas, the club originally started as the Texas Umeme Lightning. The team quickly changed its name to the Tyler Lightning and became the Texas Lightning upon their move to Dallas, Texas for the 1993/94 indoor season. DFW Tornados (also known as Dallas–Fort Worth Tornados) was an American soccer team based in Dallas, Texas, United States. Founded in 1986, the team played in the USL Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the Mid South Division of the Southern Conference. The franchise folded at the end of the 2010 season and left the league thereafter. The San Antonio Pumas were an American soccer team founded in 1988 as the San Antonio Heat in the original indoor SISL league. The Oklahoma City Slickers was the name given to two different American soccer clubs based in Oklahoma City. The first team competed in the second American Soccer League in 1982 and 1983. Tulsa Roughnecks (1993–2000)
The second Tulsa Roughnecks were an American soccer team that played in the United Soccer Leagues from 1993–99. History In January 1993, Tulsa businessman "Mack" Amini applied for a franchise in the United States Interregional Soccer League. The application was approved and the team began play in the summer of 1993 under head coach Ali Adibi who had been coaching the Southern Nazarene soccer team. In 1994, Adibi was named Coach of the Year. Adibi resigned in 1995 and was replaced by Zeljko "Vince" Krsnik. Krsnik lasted only three weeks before being fired. Adibi replaced him as interim coach, but the coaching turmoil led to drop in the standings. Tulsa, which had finished in either first or second place each season, now finished in seventh.
