1990 Winnipeg Blue Bombers Season
The 1990 CFL season, 1990 Winnipeg Blue Bombers season was the 33rd season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 58th overall. The Blue Bombers finished in first place in the East Division with a 12–6 record, which was also the best record in the league that year. The Blue Bombers defeated the Toronto Argonauts in the East Final and then defeated the Edmonton Eskimos in the championship game to win the 78th Grey Cup in the first ever Grey Cup match-up of Canadian Prairies, prairie teams. Canadian Football League East Division
The East Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League, its counterpart being the West Division. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the East Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The four teams in the division are the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, and Ottawa Redblacks. Several now-defunct teams have also played in the East Division including two teams from the United States and a large number of teams that have played in Hamilton, Montreal, and Ottawa prior to the current teams from those cities. Annis Stukus Trophy
The Annis Stukus Trophy is a Canadian Football League trophy, which is presented annually by the Edmonton Eskimos Alumni Association to the Coach of the Year, as determined by the members of the Football Reporters of Canada. The Trophy is named after former player, coach, and general manager Annis Stukus. The Stukus Trophy was typically the last trophy to be awarded in the CFL season, which was awarded at league meetings several months after the season had ended. Additionally, three coaches were nominated for the award, regardless of division. In 2015, the format changed so that there was a West and an East division representative and the award was given during Grey Cup week. Greg Battle
Greg Battle (born April 14, 1964) is a former Canadian Football League linebacker for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He graduated from Arizona State University. He had a tryout with the Denver Broncos of the NFL but turned north to Canada in 1987. He won two CFL Outstanding Defensive player awards in his career, 1990 and 1991, and helped the Blue Bombers to two Grey Cup victories in 1988 and 1990. He finished his career third in the CFL for career defensive tackles with 766. He was named one of the All-Time Blue Bomber Greats. As a senior, Battle accumulated 147 tackles and took home Honorable Mention All-America honors from the Associated Press. He was chosen the Eastern Division outstanding defensive player three times (1989, 1990 and 1991) and the CFL’s top defensive player in 1990 and 1991. CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award
The Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award is annually awarded to the best defensive player in the Canadian football League. The winner of the award is selected by members of the Football Reporters of Canada along with the head coaches in the CFL. The two nominees for the award are the James P. McCaffrey Trophy winner from the East Division, and the Norm Fieldgate Trophy winner from the West Division. Between 1955 and 1973, both defensive players and offensive lineman had to compete for the CFL's Most Outstanding Lineman Award. By the 1974 season, the league decided to make two separate awards for both defensive players and offensive lineman. 1990 Toronto Argonauts Season
The 1990 Toronto Argonauts finished in second place in the East Division with a 10–8 record. They appeared in the Eastern Final. After being the CFL's passing leader (331-for-597 for 4,509 yards) in 1989 Matt Dunigan was in another blockbuster six-for-one player trade that sent him to the Argonauts. Winnipeg Stadium
Canad Inns Stadium (also known as Winnipeg Stadium) was a multipurpose stadium in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The stadium was located at the corner of St. James Street and Maroons Road, immediately north of the Polo Park Shopping Centre and the now-defunct Winnipeg Arena. Although built for the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the stadium also accommodated baseball and soccer, and was used by various iterations of the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Winnipeg Whips. McMahon Stadium is a Canadian football stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The stadium is owned by the University of Calgary and operated by the McMahon Stadium Society.
