1990 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1990 Eisenhower Trophy took place 25 to 28 October at the Christchurch Golf Club near Christchurch, New Zealand. It was the 17th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 33 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. Sweden won the Eisenhower Trophy for the first time, finishing 13 strokes ahead of the joint silver medalists, New Zealand and United States with Canada, France and Japan tied for fourth place. Mathias Grönberg had the lowest individual score, 2-under-par 286, six strokes better than fellow-Swede Gabriel Hjertstedt. Teams 33 teams contested the event. Olivier Edmond
Olivier Edmond (born 29 January 1970) is a French professional golfer. Edmond was born in Paris. As an amateur, Edmond represented France in the Eisenhower Trophy. He won the 1990 French Amateur Championship and the Brabazon Trophy (tie with Gary Evans). He turned professional later that year. His brother, Pascal is also a professional golfer. After several seasons on the second tier Challenge Tour, Edmond won a European Tour card at his fifth attempt at qualifying school in 1997. He carried his good form into his début season, and was named the European Tour's Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year in 1998. Christian Georges Cévaër (born 10 April 1970) is a French professional golfer. Amateur career Cévaër was born in Noumea, New Caledonia. He attended the Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California. He then earned a golf scholarship to Stanford University. He won the Pac-10 Championship twice. He also won the 1989 French Amateur Championship. Professional career Cévaër turned professional in 1993. He has spent most of his professional career playing on the European Tour. Anssi Kankkonen
Anssi Kankkonen (born 11 October 1968) is a Finnish professional golfer who played on the European Tour. Kankkonen was born in Lahti, the son of former Olympic ski jumping champion Veikko Kankkonen, and followed in his father's footsteps winning a team competition in the Finnish Championships with the Lahti Ski Club team in 1985, before turning to golf. As an amateur, he represented Finland at the 1990 Eisenhower Trophy. He turned professional in 1990 and played on the Swedish Golf Tour before joining the Challenge Tour. Kankkonen recorded his first Challenge Tour win at the 1995 SIAB Open, and almost won another tournament back-to-back, losing a playoff to Thomas Bjørn at the Himmerland Open. Yeh Wei-tze (, born 20 February 1973) is a Taiwanese professional golfer. Early life and amateur career Yeh was born in Taipei. Representing his country as an amateur, Yeh was a member of the 1990 Eisenhower Trophy team, and then again at the 1992 tournament. Professional career He turned professional in 1994, played on the Asian Tour and was coached in his early career by pioneering Taiwanese golfer Lu Liang-Huan. In 2000, he won the European Tour co-sanctioned Benson & Hedges Malaysian Open, only the second Taiwanese player to win on that tour following Lu, who won the French Open in 1971. Warren Sye
Warren Sye (born 1956) is a Canadian amateur golfer who has won several important championships. Biography Sye was born in Toronto, Ontario. He began playing at a young age at the Weston Golf and Country Club in Toronto, where his father, a low-handicap player, had a membership. He attended the University of Houston on a golf scholarship, graduating in 1980. While there, he was a teammate with players such as Fred Couples, Blaine McCallister, and Jim Nantz. Doug Roxburgh (born December 28, 1951) is a Canadian accountant, amateur golfer, and golf administrator. He has won the Canadian Amateur Championship four times, the B.C. Amateur Championship a record 13 times, and is a member of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. Roxburgh was born in Vancouver, British Columbia.
