FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship For Women
The FIBA Under-18 Women's Asian Championship is an international under-18 basketball championship in the International Basketball Federation's FIBA Asia zone. The tournament started in 1970, and is held biennially. The top four teams qualify toward the FIBA Under-17 Women's Basketball World Cup. Because of the recent change in the FIBA Calendar and the inclusion of and in all Asian tournaments, a new competition format was introduced at the start of the 2018 edition. Aside from renaming the tournament to FIBA Under-18 Women's Asian Championship, it is now composed of two divisions (namely Divisions A and B) with a maximum of eight teams each to participate. Division A teams now contest for the four slots allocated for the FIBA Under-19 Women's Basketball World Cup, meaning the semifinalists are assured of a seat in the U19 Worlds. The 1989 FIBA Under-19 World Championship for Women (Spanish: 1989 Campeonato Mundial FIBA Sub-19 Femenino) took place in Spain from 23 to 30 July 1989. The Rizal Memorial Coliseum is an indoor arena in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, Philippines. Its capacity is 6,100. History The Rizal Memorial Coliseum within the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex was built on the former site of Manila Carnival Grounds in 1934 as a tennis stadium named "Rizal Memorial Tennis Stadium", but was later renamed “Rizal Memorial Coliseum” at an unknown time. It became a primary venue for the UAAP and the NCAA, before moving to much-larger venues such as the Araneta Coliseum. It was one of the buildings that were destroyed during the Battle of Manila of World War II in 1945 and was reconstructed in 1953 for the 1954 Asian Games.
