1987 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships
The 1987 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships were the 49th annual NCAA Men's Division I Cross Country Championship and the 7th annual NCAA Women's Division I Cross Country Championship to determine the team and individual national champions of NCAA Division I (NCAA), Division I men's and women's cross country running, collegiate cross country running in the United States. In all, four different titles were contested: men's and women's individual and team championships. Held on November 23, 1987, the combined meet was hosted by the University of Virginia at the Foxfield Course in Charlottesville, Virginia. The distance for the men's race was 10 kilometers (6.21 miles) while the distance for the women's race was 5 kilometers (3.11 miles). Wisconsin Badgers Men's Cross Country
The Wisconsin Badgers are the athletic teams representing the University of Wisconsin–Madison (University of Wisconsin). The Penn State Nittany Lions are the athletic teams of Pennsylvania State University, except for the women's basketball team, known as the Lady Lions. The school colors are navy blue and white. The Michigan Wolverines comprise 29 varsity sports teams at the University of Michigan. John Scherer (athlete)
John Scherer is an American former long-distance runner who ran professionally for Nike and collegiately for the Michigan Wolverines, where he was a two time NCAA Division I champion in the 10000 meter outdoor, and one-time champ in the 5000 meter indoor. Additionally, he competed in the 1992 U.S. Olympic trials and qualified for the finals in the 5000 meter. Collegiate Professional Scherer competed professionally from 1989 to 1996, winning a total of $9,065 in prize money. He ran for Nike, and was a finalist in the 1992 U.S. Olympic trials despite tendinitis which cut his weekly mileage in half and kept him out of the 10000 meter. Northern Arizona Lumberjacks cross country are the cross country teams of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona.
