1985 LPGA Championship
The 1985 LPGA Championship was held May 30 to June 2 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Played on the Grizzly Course, this was the 31st edition of the LPGA Championship. Nancy Lopez won the second of her three major titles, all at the LPGA Championship. She led wire-to-wire and finished with a final round 65 (−7) for 273 (−15), eight strokes ahead of runner-up Alice Miller. It was her second consecutive victory of the Lopez opened with a first round 65, despite being assessed a two-stroke penalty for slow play. She won her third major on the same course in 1989. The 1985 LPGA Tour was the 36th season since the LPGA Tour officially began in 1950. The season ran from January 24 to November 10. The season consisted of 35 official money events. Nancy Lopez won the most tournaments, five. She also led the money list with earnings of $416,472. There were five first-time winners in 1985: Kathy Baker, Judy Clark, Penny Hammel, Val Skinner, and Muffin Spencer-Devlin. Lori Garbacz
Lori Garbacz (born August 11, 1958) is an American professional golfer who played on the LPGA Tour for sixteen years. College career From South Bend, Indiana, Garbacz attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, Gainesville, where she played for coach Mimi Ryan's Florida Gators women's golf team in 1977 and 1978. The 1978 team was the runner-up at the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) national championship tournament. Garbacz was recognized as a first-team All-American in 1978. Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. The Women's PGA Championship (branded as the KPMG Women's PGA Championship for sponsorship reasons) is a women's professional golf tournament. First held in 1955, it is one of five majors on the LPGA Tour. It is not recognized as a major by the Ladies European Tour, which does not recognize any of the three majors played in the United States. Formerly known as the LPGA Championship, the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) announced in 2014 that the PGA of America would become a partner of the event, and that it would be renamed the Women's PGA Championship beginning in 2015—becoming a sister event to the men's PGA Championship (in a similar manner to the U.S. Women's Open being a sister event to the men's U.S. Open). Beth Daniel
Beth Daniel (born October 14, 1956) is an American professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1979 and won 33 LPGA Tour events, including one major championship, during her career. She is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Early life and amateur career Daniel was born on October 14, 1956 in Charleston, South Carolina. She played her collegiate golf at Furman University, and was on the 1976 national championship team that included future LPGA players Betsy King, Sherri Turner and Cindy Ferro. In 1977, she won the Broderick Award (now the Honda Sports Award) as the nation's best female collegiate golfer. Jerilyn Britz
Jerilyn Britz (born January 1, 1943) was an American professional golfer on the LPGA Tour. She won the 1979 U.S. Women's Open. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Britz attended Minnesota State University, Mankato (then called Mankato State University) and the University of New Mexico. She is in the Minnesota State Maverick Athletic Hall of Fame. Britz spent five years working as a high school teacher and three years as a college instructor before making her LPGA Tour debut at age 31 in 1974. Christa Johnson (born April 25, 1958) is an American professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1980 and won nine LPGA Tour events, including one major championship, during her career. Amateur career Born in Arcata, California, Johnson won the 1975 Northern California Junior Girls Championship and was honored as a member of the Northern California International Junior Cup Team. Amy Alcott (born February 22, 1956) is an American professional golfer and golf course designer.
