1981 Skate Canada International
The 1981 Skate Canada International was held in Ottawa, Ontario. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, and ice dancing. Results Men Norbert Schramm won the compulsory figures, and took both second places in short program and free skating (receiving in free skating five 5.7 marks for technical merit and five 5.8 for artistic impression). Claudia Leistner
Claudia Pfrengle (née Leistner, born 15 April 1965) is a German former figure skater. She is a two-time World silver medalist and the 1989 European champion. Career Leistner was a roller skater before taking up ice skating. In the 1981–82 season, she landed on the German senior national podium for the first time, taking the silver medal behind Manuela Ruben. Making her senior ISU Championship debut, she placed fifth at the 1982 European Championships in Lyon and fourth at the 1982 World Championships in Copenhagen. With her outstanding jumping ability, she went on to become European champion in 1989 and a two-time silver medalist at the World Championships (1983 and 1989). Margit Catharina Lindgren (born 10 May 1963), known as Catarina Lindgren, is a Swedish figure skating coach, choreographer, and former competitor. She is a four-time (1981–1984) Swedish national champion. She represented Sweden at the 1984 Winter Olympics, where she placed 20th. Karen Wood was a British competitive figure skater. She is the 1980 Richmond Trophy champion and a two-time British national champion (1981, 1983) in ladies' singles. Career Karen Wood trained in Whitley Bay, Billingham, Durham, and Deeside North Wales, passing her first test in 1971. Elizabeth Ann Manley, CM (born August 7, 1965) is a Canadian former competitive figure skater. She is the 1988 Olympic silver medallist, the 1988 World silver medalist and a three-time Canadian national champion. Early life and training Manley was born in 1965 in Trenton, Ontario, the fourth child and only daughter in her family. Her father's military career necessitated occasionally moving, and when Manley was nine years old, her family moved from Trenton to Ottawa. After her parents' divorce in the 1970s, she was raised by her mother, Joan. Competitive career Manley began skating at an early age. Her mother invested time and money in her daughter's figure skating career. Manley won the bronze medal at the 1982 World Junior Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany. Kira Valentinovna Ivanova (russian: Кира Валентиновна Иванова; 10 January 1963 – 18 December 2001) was a Soviet Russian figure skater. She was the 1984 Olympic bronze medalist, the 1985 World silver medalist, a four-time European silver medalist, and a three-time Soviet national champion. Career Ivanova won the silver medal at the 1978 World Junior Championships. She made her senior World debut at the 1979 World Championships, finishing 18th. Ivanova was 16th at the 1980 Winter Olympics. She was not sent to the 1980 World Championships, however, she received more assignments after Elena Vodorezova, a Soviet champion who had placed 6th at 1978 Worlds, was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis.
