1978 Camden London Borough Council Election
The 1978 Camden Council election took place on 4 May 1978 to elect members of Camden London Borough Council in London, the United Kingdom. The whole council was up for election, using new ward boundaries, with one less councillor than had been elected at the 1974 election. Labour were re-elected with an outright majority, but the Conservatives made gains across the borough, after losing heavily in the 1971 and 1974 elections. The Conservatives gained from Labour three seats in the southern Holborn and St Pancras South parliamentary constituency and eleven in the north (three in the Highgate ward and eight across the Hampstead parliamentary constituency). Camden London Borough Council is the local authority for the London Borough of Camden in Greater London, England. It is a London borough council, one of 32 in the United Kingdom capital of London. Nick Bosanquet
Nicholas Bosanquet (born 17 January 1942) is a British health economist and former political activist. Bosanquet was educated at Winchester College, then studied history at Clare College, Cambridge. He attended Yale University as a Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Mellon Fellow, and returned to England to study economics at the London School of Economics (LSE), before he became an economic advisor to the National Board of Prices and Incomes. From 1969, Bosanquet lectured in economics at the LSE. Focusing on health economics, he was at the King's Fund College from 1973 until 1986, then moved to the University of York, before becoming a professor at the University of London. Since 1993, Bosanquet has been Professor of Health Policy at Imperial College London. Bosanquet served on the executive of the Fabian Society from 1968 until 1977. King's Cross is a ward of the London borough of Camden, in the United Kingdom. The ward has existed since the creation of the borough on 1 April 1965 and was first used in the 1964 elections. The population of the ward at the 2011 Census was 11,843. In 2018, the ward had an electorate of 7,274. The Boundary Commission projects the electorate to rise to 8,459 in 2025. Ken Livingstone
Kenneth Robert Livingstone (born 17 June 1945) is an English politician who served as the Leader of the Greater London Council (GLC) from 1981 until the council was abolished in 1986, and as Mayor of London from the creation of the office in 2000 until 2008. He also served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brent East from 1987 to 2001. A former member of the Labour Party, he was on the party's hard left, ideologically identifying as a socialist. Neil Fletcher (politician)
(Peter) Neil Fletcher (born 5 May 1944) was a Labour politician and the last Leader of the Inner London Education Authority before its abolition. Early life Fletcher was born in Blackpool and attended Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys. He trained to be a teacher and taught in schools in Leeds for two years before becoming a Lecturer in further education in Harrow and Merton in the early 1970s. He was active in his trade union and was appointed as Principal Administration Officer for NALGO in 1976. London government Fletcher was elected to Camden London Borough Council in 1978 for the Kilburn ward along with Ken Livingstone who he became allied to in Labour politics. Tessa Jane Helen Douglas Jowell, Baroness Jowell, (; 18 September 1947 – 12 May 2018) was a British Labour Party politician and life peer who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dulwich and West Norwood, previously Dulwich, from 1992 to 2015.
