1977–78 National Camogie League
The 1977 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by Wexford GAA#Camogie, Wexford, who defeated Cork GAA#Camogie, Cork in the final, played at Clonroche, Castleboro. Arrangements Cork, who did not compete in 1976-77, won the western zone with full points, defeating holders Tipperary, Clare, Galway and Limerick. Wexford lost in their first outing to Kilkenny, who in turn lost to Dublin, leaving all three counties on two points. In the play-offs Wexford then beat Kilkenny and Dublin but by the time these matches had been played, the final, fixed for mid-November had to be put forward to March. Wexford had beaten Cork by 3-8 to 1-3 in the open draw championship the previous July. The Final Bridget Doyle scored two goals as Wexford won the final by seven points. Wexford GAA
The Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae Loch Garman) or Wexford GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Wexford. The county board is also responsible for the Wexford county teams. Wexford is one of the few counties to have won the All-Ireland Senior Championship in both football and hurling. The county hurling team last won the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in 1996. The county football team has won five All-Ireland Senior Football Championships, with the most recent win achieved in 1918. History Hurling has been played in Wexford from medieval times. Cloyne GAA club is located in the small town of Cloyne in County Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club plays in the Imokilly GAA, Imokilly division of Cork GAA. Founded in 1887 they have yet to win a Cork Senior Hurling Championship title and have the dubious distinction of losing in 3 successive finals (2004, 2005 and 2006). Marie Costine
Marie Costine (born in Cloyne, County Cork, Ireland) is a former camogie player. Overview Costine was winner of All Ireland medals in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 (as captain) and 1978. She was selected on the camogie Team of the century in 2004. Early life Costine was born in 1947 in Cloyne. She started playing camogie in 1964 with the Oil Refinery Club. She then joined the Youghal team in 1966 and stayed there until 1971 when Cloyne started their own club. Career Costine played club camogie with both Killeagh and Imokilly, winning ten Cork County Championships and an All Ireland Club Championship in 1980, when Killeagh defeated Buffers Alley. She was the first Cloyne women to bring an All Ireland to Cloyne, which until then was known as the home of Christy Ring. She captained the team in 1973 and contributed significantly to the success of a Cork team that won four championships in a row and added another All Ireland in 1978.
