Individual Ice Speedway World Championship
The Individual Ice Speedway World Championship is an Ice speedway championship held annually to determine an individual World Champion. History The first Championships were held in 1966. A European Championship was held for the two years preceding the World Championships.The event has been dominated by the Soviet Union/Russia, who have won all but seven of the World Championship titles since 1966. Sweden has won five times, Czechoslovakia twice and Finland once. Medalists In 2021 and 2022 Russian athletes competed as neutral competitors using the designation MFR (Motorcycle Federation of Russia), as the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld a ban on Russia competing at World Championships. The ban was implemented by the World Anti-Doping Agency in response to state-sponsored doping program of Russian athletes. Miroslav Verner (born October 31, 1941, in Brno) is a Czech egyptologist, who specializes in the history and archaeology of Ancient Egypt of the Old Kingdom and especially of the Fifth Dynasty of Egypt. Verner is a specialist on the archaeology of the Old Kingdom pyramids, and published one of the fundamental syntheses on the subject, in a new, updated edition in 2021. Biography Verner was the director of the Czechoslovak and later Czech Institute of Egyptology at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague for twenty-five years, and led the Czech excavations at Abusir. Sergey Aleksandrovich Tarabanko (russian: Сергей Александрович Тарабанько, born 25 August 1949) is a retired Russian ice speedway rider who won seven world titles between 1975 and 1981. Biography Tarabanko was born in Moscow, but was soon moved to Kirovsk and then Angarsk, where he started training in cross-country motorcycle racing. After working as a turner at a factory, between 1968 and 1972 he served in the army. In 1975 he graduated from the University of Pedagogy in Chita. He then worked as a test driver for a Jawa Motors factory in Novosibirsk, and in 1977 moved to Moscow to coach motorcycle racers. He participated in the 1988 Winter Olympics as a driver of the Soviet Olympic team and later worked as the head of the CSKA racing team in Moscow.
