II Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships were held in Prague, Czechoslovakia on 3 and 4 December 1965. Participants There were 32 competitors from 12 countries - Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, German Democratic Republic, Federal Republic of Germany, Hungary, Poland, Yugoslavia, Finland, Cuba, Belgium & Austria. Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships
The Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships are the world championships for the sport of rhythmic gymnastics. The tournament is promoted and organized by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). It is one of the three tournaments in rhythmic gymnastics officially organized by FIG, as well as the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup and the gymnastics competitions at the Olympic Games (in collaboration with the IOC and the federation of the country organising the Games). The first edition of the World Championships was held in 1963, a time when the sport was known as modern gymnastics. The current program of the World Championships contemplates both individual and group performances. In even non-Olympic years and the year before the Olympics, a team event is also contested. Ute Lehmann
Ute Polster-Lehmann (10 August 1941 – 11 March 1994) was a German rhythmic gymnast who competed for East Germany. She was the 1967 world all-around silver medalist. Biography Lehmann was born in 1941 in Berlin-Lichterfelde. She appeared in the first ever World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in 1963 held in Budapest, Hungary finishing 10th in the all-around. Her second appearance at the 1965 World Championships she finished 8th in the All-around. Lehmann achieved success at the 1967 World Championships in Copenhagen winning the all-around silver medal behind Soviet Elena Karpuchina, and won a bronze medal in rope. Maria Gigova
Maria Gigova ( bg, Мария Гигова; born 24 April 1947) is a Bulgarian rhythmic gymnast. She is a three-time (1969, 1971, 1973) World All-around champion. Biography She was the first gymnast to become a triple world champion in rhythmic gymnastics with her titles in 1969, 1971, and 1973. Gigova has a total of four gold medals in hoop (1967, 1969, 1971 and 1973), an achievement still unmatched by any other gymnast, as well as one title in rope (1971) and free exercise (1969). As a member of the Bulgarian Team, she also earned team titles at the rhythmic gymnastics world championships in 1969 and 1971. Ludmila Savinkova
Ludmila Petrovna Savinkova (Ukrainian: Людмила Петрівна Савінкова; Russian: Людмила Петровна Савинкова; born 1 January 1936) is a retired Soviet rhythmic gymnast. She is the first World Champion in 1963 and one of the group member that won gold in the first ever Group competition held at the 1967 World Championships. Hana Machatová-Bogušovská
Hana Machatová-Bogušovská (born 31 July 1938) is a retired Czech rhythmic gymnast. She is the 1965 World individual all-around silver medalist and three times Czech champion (1963, 1965, 1966). Her twin, Jiřina Machatová, is also very successful gymnast and ballet dancer. Now she is a coach of young rhythmic gymnasts in Czech republic. In April 2019 was released a book about the famous twins Machatovy. Biography Machatová was born in Brno and competed in three World Championships.
